Waiting for it to come in the mail from the UK.
Man I wouldn't be able to sleep waiting for this game!
Anyways! I finally finished the part after the Trials and caught a Bonehead finally! Yes I know I'm not that far... :(
I am at 25 hours of gameplay, and my charcter is level 28. I have done everything in the first 2 areas, and just completed the fairyland story line. I am having a lot of mixed feelings, i guess more frustration, as this is my first JRPG and some of the mechanics and /or tools that i am accustomed the game lacks or is just not implemented well. Still cant figure out why they cut out a ton of dialogue, or just didn't do it, because the animations are there to have it included. Weird omission imo.
- Playtime: ~6 hours
- Party Level: ~15
- Current location: Al Mamoon
I've been taking things a bit slow, mostly because I want to finish all the side quests. As soon as I got to Al Mamoon I took on all the quests that were available, finished all of them and only have the bounty hunt left to do. After that I'll be continuing on with the story. I'm not sure if I'm over-leveled for the point I'm at but most fights are easily handled, boss fights are a bit more interesting but I don't think I've gotten to a point where I had to rely on consumables to get through a fight. Died once on the first bounty fight though!

I don't believe they changed the talking animations from the Japanese version. Welcome to first JRPG
Anyway.
26 hours, level 25, Just starting Treeheti. Done every side quest so far and spent a good deal of time trying to tame and level familiars I find to be cool.
I believe 9 or so hours. I just finished the volcano and I keep doing all the side stuff before moving out of an area.
I'm around 20 hours in, lv. 22 or so. I got stomped by the squid boss in Momma's tummy (like only got the boss to around 50% health) a couple times, so I think I'm going to have to go level up a bit and come back. This is the first boss I've had trouble with so far, so I'm guessing I'm underleveled. The only other time I died was against the volcano boss, but that was me playing sloppy; I trounced him pretty easily the second time.
@Irvandus:
I dont know if i said it right. When there is a cut scene it goes into the animation, which is super awesome, and then quickly drop out into text. But you can clearly see the characters mouthing the words and being expressive. I dont understand why they wouldnt add voice with all that work is done.
I'm 23 hours into it and just got to the glittering grotto last night for the final stone but with my current level being 34 I think I will have to grind a bit to finish that area
About 18 hours in, just started to wander around Hamelin. Doing all the side quests I can so am jogging around the world map right now. Level 30 ish I believe am hesitant to look at guides about good familiars but don;t wanna be stuck later on. I hear Oliver's Mitey sucks late game. Right now Oliver is rolling with Mitey, Swaine's Gunther dude and I am trying to train up the cat bandit dude to later replace Mitey. Esther has Gogo, the babana familiar Skinny and a wombat thing. Swaine has the lemur, a skeleton dude and cubber club. It would be cool if you guys could just point out "hey that guy stinks or good combo of dudes". Right now i'm choosing based on looks and their second evo stats and then maybe swapping them out. Also choosing genus' based on the characters preferred ones.
I'm on a boat! And now I have to go back and find better familiars because the internet says all mine suck!
After a bit of exploration and an insane pokemon hunt where I wouldn't leave an area until I had every single type of enemy available. I moved my story onto the Fairy village which is by far the most ghibli-ish/ messed up thing I have come across in the game.
I then went on another hunt found that island with the Toko's, wouldn't...COULDN'T stop until I had caught one, in the process leveling Oliver to about 59, and Esther and Swaine to 55 & 55. After doing all the sidequests I could in the porcine palace I'm now about to head to the Pig king or whatever.
@D_Bones: The cat is good, but end-game he wouldn't be the best, when I say end-game I mean permanent godly familiar, probably good until you beat the game,I'd get the genuses for each party member though for dat extra boost, and Swaine is okay, just not for end-game,and try to get Tin man for Swaine, double tank and you're practically good with Bonehead and the Lemur.
Around 12 hours in, currently in Al Mamoon doing side quests and capturing familiars. Next goal is to go to the volcano area. I have Oliver's Mite, Esther's Drongo, the monkey, the green small fairy, the skeleton familiar, the Naiad, and the sun. I also got the babanas-looking familiar and the one with the purple turban because of the side quest.
Still have a couple more side quests and bounty hunts to do before moving forward to the volcano area. Game is awesome! :P

@Stepside: Mitey is good enough to get you through the main game if you want to keep him. I was using both Mitey and Purrloiner and it wasn't until after Nevermore (like 80% through the game) that the stat difference started to become noticeable.
Mitey is fucking awesome. I can't get rid of him his little squeal when you feed him chocolate bars is too cute. >_>

I've traded Mitey for Whambo the Whambat.... Fuck Mitey, Whambo has sunglasses and has a superhero costume. (I still love you Mitey)
I just defeated Moltaan ontop of Smokey Mountain. I didn't take the bounty on him until after I defeated him, is there anything I can do to get that bounty now?
39 hours, I'm at Hamlin doing errands and haven't entered the palace yet, My character/familiars are around mid 30's. Loving the game.
As a side note, It probably wasn't a good idea to start FF4 in anticipation of this game.
@bunnymud: Woah have you been training? I passed that part so far (not gonna spoil) and I'm still 40 - 50 hours in!
@Hizang: Yeah that was the biggest troll in the game in my opinion, and I wish they just do a whole entire dialogue for one specific _____ground,it would've been funny to hear them talking.
@sir_gunblade: You'll probably have to re-fight him again sadly.
NG+/SL112 in the Kiln. Gwyn was easy-mode on my first run but this time around I'm having trouble with the parry timing.

Holy damn! Did you play on Easy mode or just avoided doing Bounty Quest,I'm like 40 - 50 hours in and I'm not even half your level, and don't even have my strong familiars yet!
