The Nintendo 3DS is a portable game console produced by Nintendo. The handheld features stereoscopic 3D technology that doesn't require glasses. It was released in Japan on February 26, 2011 and in North America on March 27, 2011.
Are you going to upgrade to the 3DS XL from your original 3DS?
So I decided to get the Nintendo 3DS XL on launch. The bigger screens, better battery life, more comfortable to hold design, the anti glare screens (yes, it has them on the top screen), and the more simple and round design are very appealing to me. Also, I never owned a DSi XL so haveing a big beast like this is even more appealing to me. So I thought I would create this poll to see how many Nintendo 3DS owners will be upgrading to the 3DS XL.
Nope. I have a 3DS and I will probably get the next upgrade with a better battery cause that is pretty much my only complaint.
There was a moment where I was considering it, but the idea of not being able to transfer over the saves from your downloaded games really put me off... I put a lot of time into getting all those par times in Mighty Switch Force. The bigger size card would be nice although with games like Mario being £10 more expensive I'm instantly put off of buying full digital games on that thing.
If I ever get a bigger one I'll probably get it when it drops in price and keep the other system. I really like the original design and colour (blue) anyways. I'd have been far more tempted by the purple one if it ever came out here.

Your saves should transfer. This is from Nintendo:
@JJOR64: Oh man that changes things. I'd read in a bunch of places the downloadable save game data doesn't transfer.
Nope. Don't have a 3DS. Want a white one but they are only available in Japan. And besides that, I don't want something that big. I like the 3DS but want an upgraded one. Not looking for the second stick to come with it but for the improvements they made to the XL. The better screens and better 3D effect. Also white.
@GunstarRed: Got clarification that the save data does indeed transfer.
I'm not getting one. My 3DS has been sitting on my nightstand, batteries drained, for about 4 months now.
I'm sure it's great if you're just getting into it, but I actually use mine when I commute, so portability is part of the appeal.
Even if I did feel it made my previous system inferior though, I certainly wouldn't upgrade. I didn't upgrade when they released new versions of the xbox or ps3 either (though that's a somewhat different argument). I just don't see how one can condone paying again for a system when you already have a system that plays the games.
Why doesn't it have the other analog stick built in? Is it because it's only used in a few games anyway?
I don't see the point, for me personally. I will not beget anyone who didn't have one before and wants to get the XL, or anyone who wants to upgrade, but it does nothing for me.
I feel the current size of the 3DS works fine for me; sure a larger screen might be nice but as long as I avoid seeing it in person I can avoid temptation (just like my iPhone screen was fine until I started using an iPad fairly regularly). The only other nice thing would be the better battery life, but generally I have not run into any issues where my battery drains out when I am nowhere near an outlet. Also, as someone mentioned earlier in the thread, Jeff said that the larger size made it more difficult to find that "sweet spot" for the 3D; sure, not many games use it, but for the games that do like Super Mario 3D Land that would suck.
The only thing that could've got me to buy this system is if the buttons were farther from the edge, but it appears they are not. This is a big problem for me. I'm a grown man with long fingers, and it's so uncomfortable to contort my thumb in such a way that it's in the proper position that after like 45 minutes or so my finger will actually be in pain. Monsters. Trying to hurt me.
