So after hearing the news of the 3DS XL coming out, who will be trading in their old 3DS in favor of the XL? I am on the fence, but not sure if it is worth it. This questions becomes tricky whem I consider all the free games i received from the ambassador program. Where are you guys at?

Don't think I'll trade in unless they allow you to do a system transfer first. MIght pick one up somewhere down the line, but for now I'm looking more towards the Vita and WiiU than towards a revision of a console I already own.

Yeah. I'm real on the fence about this. I like the idea of better battery life/larger screen. This won't really be a day-one purchase, but I've enjoyed the holy hell out of my time with my 3DS, so I guess we'll see.

@tracerace11: err you know you can transfer ALL your data over, right? you won't lose anything if you by a 3DS XL, transfer and then sell your old 3DS.

No. Might actually buy a game this year though, looks like some good ones coming. Currently I'm still working through my ambassador and Nintendo club freebies.

@DeF I did not know if a retailer would let me do that. So I was assuming that if I chose to upgrade, I would forfeit those games. If I was able to transfer, that makes this tempting.

the retailer has nothing to do with the transfer. every 3DS can do that. all you have to do is be smart about this and not trade in your 3DS FOR the 3DS XL but buy the XL first, transfer at home and THEN trade in your old 3DS for credit (or just sell it on ebay or amazon, which should get you more money anyway)

@laserbolts: $199.99 was the price I saw quoted.

I'll certainly be getting one of these since it's being released around my birthday. :D

The 3DS XL to me looks incredible ugly and not sleek compared to the regular 3DS and just looks bulky. The only thing I care about it is the better battery life but besides that I don't care. I will most likely consider the next upgrade if the battery life is improved and if it isn't as bulky (3DS lite hopefully)

I'm certainly not. I barely use the one I have. I really just need some decent games for it, of which there are some out there. My nature won't allow me to pay $40 for a handheld game, though.

Is it the battery life? because games will look worse on that screen.

I can't upgrade since I don't have one, but I'm wondering if the "old" model is going to come down in price. If so, maybe I'll buy one of those. There seems to be a lot of cool game coming out that I would like to buy.

I don't see it as an upgrade- it's just a bigger screen with the same resolution- that's the opposite of what I want. I would have bought it day one if it had the second stick- It's got to be the way to play games like Resident Evil (and presumably, Luigi's Mansion).

I will, day one. I love my 3DS, but I traded my DSi XL for it and I miss it dearly. I love the large form factor, feels better in my hands.

I think Jeff said it best when he said "What do you want another stick for? More FPS's?".There are only 7 games that support a second stick, and I only want to play one of them personally. Kingdom Hearts is probably gonna be a pain without it, I'll manage.

I'm in the camp who wouldn't really call this an "upgrade" it's more just an alternative model.

I did love the DSi XL though, it was much nicer and a lot more comfortable, which seems equally true here. I rarely play games away from home, so the portability thing is never really an issue. I don't see the point of spending another £180 on what's essentially the same thing though. If it did have new features, even just the second analogue stick, I would have been all over it.

There's an option in the menu for transferring data to another system.

Wanted one since the original 3DS was announced. Its part of why I refused to transfer any of my DSiXL games to my 3DS. Why sacrifice those large screens? It's almost ridiculous.

That said, I no longer plan to keep my original 3DS because of this new development.

I've been mulling it over since its announcement, I would like a bigger 3DS and that battery life sounds great. But I don't know how much better the original 3DS will look due to its smaller size, I would like to have a hands on in a store first before I decide to buy it.

I also don't get all this ho ha about no new analog stick, who the fuck cares! I mean all of these people who are complaining about this, please tell me all the great games that used it, oh and the great games in the future that will use it. Oh thats right, that one game that nobody outside of Japan cares about.

I actually support Nintendo for dropping it, it was a stupid idea in the first place releasing that plastic add on, much better they stick to there guns.

I wouldn't consider this an "upgrade", truth be told. It's the exact same hardware, just a bit bigger. And the "extended battery life" is almost non-existant. I guess this is targeted more at people who don't have a 3DS than those who are wanting to "upgrade".

    @cosi83 said:

The 3DS is almost the same size as a DSi. If there was a DS Lite in the first place is because the DS Phat needed a redesign. The leap from the original model to the DS Lite was huge. By adding a second circle pad, Nintendo would be shooting itself in the foot. They are trying to expand the install base of their console and creating games that absolutely require 2 circle pads instead of one would alienate the majority of those people. Of course, they could make games use either one or both circle pads, right? But what would the logic behind that be? If you put it there, use it. Otherwise, we already have the Circle Pad Pro for games that have the option to use it.

I was holding off on the 3DS and seeing as this new one is going to cost £180 ($280 at the current rate) I think I'll continue waiting. It doesn't help that I would have to then buy a mains charger myself. Once some games I actually care about come out, or the price drops, then I'll pick an XL up.

I don't really need the extra battery life and the cost isn't justified by the bigger screens for me, so I won't. Plus, I'm not sure that thing would even fit in my pocket, especially not in every pair of pants I own.
