Just got a 3DS XL for Christmas...please...help...

#1 Posted by DoctorWelch (2610 posts) - 4 months, 25 days ago

So, I just got this thing for Christmas and I currently have no games to play on it. That's when I went into the eShop and saw that there's a bunch of old games in the Virtual Console that I would love to play. It's even better that they're really cheap.

The only problem is, I really don't want to support the stupidity of Nintendo's Virtual Console with purchases that don't carry across platforms. So, what should I do? I really don't want to spend $40 on a version of Super Mario 3D Land that I can't later sell or get rid of if I don't like it, but I just have no idea what I can get on the eShop that is both cheap, and awesome without supporting Nintendo's idiocy.

CONVINCE ME NOT TO BUY A VIRTUAL CONSOLE GAME OR I SWEAR ILL DO IT! I FUCKING SWEAR! YOU HEAR ME! DONT MAKE ME DO THIS!

Why not just get Pushmo and Crashmo?

#3 Posted by Hizang (8536 posts) - 4 months, 25 days ago

@DoctorWelch: You should get Pushmo, don't get Crashmo first because its way harder. Oh and don't be stupid, go and get Super Mario Bros The Golden 6 Coins..

Well, I got Pushmo, and now I'm like half way done with that game. Really great though.

So then get a retail copy that you can resell and don't have it digitally.

You can't have your cake and eat it too.

@MAGZine: Well, it was Christmas day and I wanted to at least play something on my new 3DS.

Isn't Mario 3D land one of the free games if you sign up a new XL before January or is that a european thing only?

I never understood this saying from a logical standpoint.

Sell it

Pokemon Black!

EDIT: This is not on the eShop so it's a pretty unhelpful suggestion!

From the eShop I say get Mighty Switch Force and Liberty Maiden.

If you don't want to get a digital copy of Super Mario 3D Land, just get a physical copy of Pokemon Black/White 2,

I got a 3DS XL about a month ago and so far, I've bought Liberation Maiden and Denpa Men from the eShop. Liberation Maiden is only worth getting if you're a Suda 51 fan, as it's only 4 levels and can be completed in about 2 hours. I'm only about 10 hours into Denpa Men, but it's a pretty good Pokemon-like RPG.

Hahaha didn't even see that. I meant to say he could 3D Land physically and a copy of Black/White 2, two great games.

Historically, the saying is a bit different, but it makes a bit more sense if you 'reverse' it.

You can't eat your cake and have it too. That's what it's saying. You can find the history of it on wiki I think.

Although now that I've said that, if you read it again, I'm certain it'll make more sense.

Mighty Switch Force is great. Try it out...

@MikeHawk: Liberation Maiden has five stages, but the last one is a relatively short boss fight. Still worth getting if you want a nice shoot'em up. Do mind that it uses touch screen aiming and your mileage will vary. Like Metroid Prime Hunters and Kid Icarus Uprising, some people are fine with it while others see it as an unplayable method of control.

Another vote for Crashmo! It is a lovely puzzle game. I'm about 80 puzzles in and it's starting to get really tricky. I might go get Pushmo later since I didn't get it.

Crimson Shroud seems to be an nice jRPG with a table-top aesthetic. For its price, you get a bite-sized, ~7 hour JRPG experience. I have yet to get the game myself since the game goes all in to the table-top look (the characters are static figurines and you fight by rolling dice) and that's not what I really want.
