It came with Mario Kart 7 installed, and I bought Mario 3D Land and Resident Evil Revelations.
I honestly haven't payed a lot of attention to the system. What other games should I be looking at?

Not a bad question. I bought one recently as well. Anyone have any recommendations for 3DS/DSi gems (or just good games) in the eShop? I have Liberation Maiden and Crimson Shroud already. Any others I should look into? Other than Push/Crashmo cause those have been mentioned.
There's about a billion threads asking the same thing, but I'll take any excuse I can to tell someone they NEED Kid Icarus Uprising.
Oh, and Mighty Switch Force, Theatrhythm etc etc.
*It turned out to be a nice little art tutorial. I consider myself inept when it comes to art but I after putting in a lot of hours I was pleasantly surprised by how good it looked. I hear that the large screens on the XL are a great match for this game. Due to "boxing week" sales going on right now you can grab it for $20, if it's something that interests you I reccomend it.
Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy was a lot more fun than it had any right to be. I am neither a huge rhythm game fan nor am I that into Final Fantasy, but I obsessed over that game for a good three weeks.
Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars is a good one to check out if you like grid-based, turn-based, strategy games. I believe the designer on GR:SW was actually the guy behind the original X-Com games (I could be mistaken about that, but I recall hearing something to that effect).
if you're up for a looooot of reading, then check out Virtue's Last Reward.
and I mean a lot. The game is probably 90% reading. Thankfully the story is great.
Yeah, unfortunately I'll have to say VLR as well. I'm saying unfortunately because the 3DS version is busted compared to the VITA version, but hey, it didn't prevent me from finishing it and it is DAAAAMN great game ! Although if you want to buy this game, you'll want to buy (and play, obviously) 999 before that.
Also, yeah Theatrhythm is pretty good. Personally, I just bought a 3DS XL just as an excuse to play all my DS games on a bigger screen. And there's no shame in that ! (If you like visual novels, get Ghost Trick and the Phoenix Wright series).
I am going to vote for Theatrhythm as well. Also the Mario Kart 7 is a pretty great Mario Kart game. If you haven't played Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time then the 3DS version is by far the best ever released for newcomers (and it shows off the vibrancy of colours on the 3DS screen). Also despite it being a DS game, Pokémon Black/White Version 2 is pretty great - so I would say if you have had any fleeting interest in Pokémon then this is the game to get (allowing from the start the ability to battle and catch pokémon from all the generations - plus i is easily the snappiest of any I have seen in the series).
Those are the games I have been playing on the 3DS.
Kid Icarus FOR SURE (most people don't like the control scheme but I think it's fine), LoZ OoT, Paper Mario Sticker Star, and Ghost Recon Shadow Wars are my favorite games on the system so far.
