    FutureShop's "DS and 2DS" section

    Bestbuy is confused too.

Futureshop and BestBuy Canada (which are pretty much the same company) are grouping 2DS together with DS / DSi.

If it wasn't confusing enough for parents already. I feel bad for retail employees who will have to deal with "my kid bought a Pokemons XY and it won't fit in his DS!".

On the plus side, if anyone acidentally buys a 2DS to play DS games then that'll work out just fine.

Yeah, unfortunately it was pretty obvious when the name was revealed that this sort of confusion would occur, but it's a shame that Nintendo can't properly communicate to retailers about how to position and market this system.

As @jacksukeru said though, the bright side is that there won't be any confused parents giving kids a console and games that won't work together.

Wow, that's pretty bad. If major retailers can't figure out what this product is, then good luck getting parents and grandparents to figure it out. You'd think Nintendo would have learned something about naming products after the Wii U, but I guess not.

Sorry to rain on your hate train. 2DS will be just fine without or without confusion.

So does that new controller, the Wii U or whatever, work with the 2DS?

The 2D 3DS! Or was it the 3DS 2D? Or was it the 32 DD? Which era is this?

It's worth pointing out (as you touched on) that they're quite literally the same company, part of Canada's grand tradition of dominant companies buying competitors and pretending they're separate. This is really only one screw-up that was propagated to two "skins" of the same core website backend.

True, but it being one of the biggest electronics retailers in two countries just makes it more regrettable that Nintendo wouldn't take the time to make sure they get it right.

The 3DS is the best thing Nintendo has going right now and opening that up to a broader audience with a cheaper and more kid-friendly model should be a slam dunk. Marketing confusion won't help them capitalize on that potential.

They should discontinue the vanilla DS all together to eliminate confusion. That way it would be easy to simply say "all these systems support all these games."

While I think that would help, then people might still just think it's the final redesign of the vanilla DS. If people are already making these sort of assumptions about the product, I could see them continuing to assume it doesn't play 3DS game and is meant to be a final DS redesign.

@grantheaslip: Yeah. How it's displayed in the store is probably more important anyway.
