The Nintendo 3DS is a portable game console produced by Nintendo. The handheld features stereoscopic 3D technology that doesn't require glasses. It was released in Japan on February 26, 2011 and in North America on March 27, 2011.
Ok, so even though it isn't confirmed, it's pretty scary. I'm now not sure if I wanna buy a multi-hundo dollar portable that has game specific friend codes, or even a universal friend codes. Why can't you just use online profiles which utilize names?
Friend Codes wouldn't go away entirely. I'm pretty sure that was certain once it was announced that DS and DSi titles are compatible with the 3DS. There aren't any details regarding how 3DS-specific games generate or use Friend Codes on a wider scale, so I really don't see a point in freaking out about it. For all we know, Friend Codes could be system specific for 3DS titles, and while still not convenient, would at least eliminate the problem of having different codes per game.
But, yeah. You were maybe expecting an Xbox Live-like service for the 3DS launch?
I can see the Fox news article now. "The 3DS. An amazing new gadget, or a tool for pedophiles.... All the pedophile has to do is find out or guess your child's 12 digit long game code and they can instantly and easily communicate to your child."
Sometimes I feel like Nintendo just does this shit on purpose. They know their bullshit is going to sell either way so they just do this shit just to fuck with us.
Oh come on, don't tell me you didn't see this coming. It's Nintendo! They're not going to change their online policy because they aren't immediately focused on it.
So I just read on the kotaku live blog that there's only one friend code for the machine and no more separate friend codes for games. About as much as we were ever going to get realistically.
Yeah it is a number per system much better. And what i wanted all along. I know people over all hate the idea of friend codes (and as a huge Metroid and AC player was a pain....), but i do see the whys.
