Ok, so I bought a 3DS the first day it came out, over priced and all. I got Super Street Fighter 4, and later I got Ocarina of Time, but that's it. So, I wanted to ask you guys on what are some games that have come out since then that are just fantastic, or what games I should hold out and wait to buy. I was thinking maybe Kid Icarus, but I've heard some groans about the controls.

#2 Posted by believer258 (7895 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

Super Mario 3D Land? And Mario Kart, I guess?

#3 Posted by Trevorisamazing (53 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

Kid Icarus is amazing. You'll get used to the controls as long as you use the stand.

#4 Posted by GunstarRed (4036 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

Probably Mario 3D land, but I'm about half way through Kid Icarus at the minute and it's easily the best game I have played this year by a mile. Really charming and kinda weird, but in all the right ways.

resident evil revelations, kid icarus uprising. you're welcome.

Pushmo!

#7 Posted by msavo (7277 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

Every 3DS owner is required by law to download Pushmo!

#8 Posted by rjayb89 (7563 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

Had to steal my niece's 3DS to play Pushmo. That game is well worth a life of crime.

#9 Posted by benspyda (1397 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

Pushmo, Kid Icarus and RE: Revaltions. Can't speak for Mario because I'm not a huge mario fan.

#10 Posted by JJOR64 (18131 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

Super Mario 3D Land or Mario Kart 7.

#11 Posted by ahgunsillyo (398 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

Everybody posting above is correct. Super Mario 3D Land, Kid Icarus: Uprising, Mario Kart 7, and Resident Evil: Revelaitons. And Pushmo. Don't be discouraged by the groans about the controls, Kid Icarus is a fantastic game. If you can, use the stand.

#12 Posted by fazzle (268 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

Tales of the Abyss is pretty good as well. The 3D is almost non-existant, and if you've ever played a Tales game before you know what you're getting into cause the formula seems pretty intact, but that doesn't mean it's not a good game.

You forgot 3D Land and Pushmo and Ocarina of Time 3DS. You're welcome!

Skylanders is often overlooked on the 3DS, but it is quite fun.

#15 Posted by NapTimeSleeper (302 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

Resident Evil Revelations is pretty good.

#16 Posted by TentPole (1858 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

Kid Icarus

#17 Posted by BeachThunder (8916 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars - it's actually a pretty decent tactics game :o

#18 Posted by Omega (759 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

I'd recommend Devil Survivor:Overclocked if you haven't already played the DS version. Probably my favourite aside from Kid Icarus and Zelda. If you don't already know, its an SRPG of the Shin Megami Tensei universe. Its what you'd get if you combined Persona with Final Fantasy Tactics.

Kingdom Hearts 3D. It's my 3rd game I want (even though I never played one). Now they only need to announce a date for LM2 so I know when I'll finally get a 3DS.

I disagree; I took to the controls instantly, with no stand.

Kid Icarus, Mario Kart 7, Super Mario 3D Land, Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars, and Rhythm Thief are all worth getting.

EDIT: Oh, I forgot Rhythm Thief isn't out in Ameriland yet so you might have to wait for that one if you're not in Europe.

Retail: So far only played Super Mario 3D Land, Mario Kart7 and RE Mercs 3D. Really recommend Land and Kart.

As for digital: Like everyone else Pullblox/Pushmo is great. Also some of the Virtual Console stuff is good. Got Super Mario Land 2 6 Golden Coins and having fun with that in short bursts.

Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars is great if you're looking for a turn-based strategy game. Super Mario 3D Land is nothing short of phenomenal, as those games always are. Tetris Axis is some solid-ass Tetris if you like Tetris.

secretly the best launch title nobody talked about!

if you've never played Starfox 64, get the 3DS version!

besides Pushmo, get Mutant Mudds (by Renegade Kid) on the eShop! ... man I hope that game makes its way to EU soon...

so your collection ultimately should look like this:

@GunslingerPanda: tell me more about Rhythm Thief, Nintendo keeps throwing ads all over my screens but I have no idea what this is (aside from a rhythm game, probably^^)

Think Professor Layton with Rhythm minigames instead of puzzles. Also has a pretty good videogame story.

Devil Survivor Overclocked, Ocarina of Time, and Kid Icarus, Mario Kart 7, and Super Mario 3D Land. Everyone should play these games.

Mario 3D Land is a must own, Kid Icarus, Mario Kart

Upcoming titles, Luigis mansion, Paper mario, Kingdom hearts

eshop games, Dilons rolling western (pretty fun tower defense game) , Pushmo

#29 Posted by yoshimitz707 (2385 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

Super Mario 3D Land, Kid Icarus: Uprising, Pushmo, and Tales of the Abyss.

#30 Posted by AlisterCat (5025 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

Plenty of good games. Pushmo is one.

#31 Posted by Jimi (1117 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

Tales of the Abyss is great albeit a bit easy.

Mario 3D land is probably my favourite so far though, I haven't picked up Kid Icarus yet because that stand is extremely discouraging. I play my 3ds when I'm travelling, never at home.

#32 Posted by Hairydutchman (1035 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

I bought a 3DS without any games. How much do the Kid Icarus controls compare to Metroid Prime Hunters? Because I thought that game controlled great.

#33 Posted by Legend (2495 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

Ridge Racer 3D is pretty good if you're looking for a racing game. I enjoyed it a lot.

#34 Posted by jaycrockett (269 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

I only have Street Fighter IV, Ocarina of Time, and Ghost Recon. Of those I like Ghost Recon the best. I spend a lot of time on the downloadable stuff. Currently digging Picross, which was a nintendo club reward last month.

#35 Posted by Blargonaut (72 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

I second Mutant Mudds...Great classic game design and very challenging. Also, Super Mario 3D Land is an instant classic and Mario Kart 7 is the best yet. I just bought Kid Icarus but haven't played it yet.

#36 Posted by BestUsernameEver (4659 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

The lack of worthy games on this thread disturbs me. It's been out for over a year and theres only 4 pretty good games. Ruh roh.

#37 Posted by Ketchupp (635 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

Kid Icarus is great but I hear left handed people aren't too crazy about it.

Speak for yourself. As a lefty, I love it. And yes, I do use the Circle Pad Pro. It's a small price to pay for that greatness.

has anyone played Ace Combat and if so how is it?

#40 Posted by Shaanyboi (1072 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars

Mario Kart 7

Super Mario 3D Land

RE: Revelations

Zelda: OOT

and yes, you are required by law to download Pushmo

#41 Posted by 49th (1801 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

Super Mario 3D Land is god tier, Mario Kart 7 is fine if you haven't played Mario Kart for a while.

Get Pullblox... er, I mean Pushmo, it's a really fun puzzle game.

Also, Nintendo Letter Box... oops, I mean Swapnote, is a fun way to communicate with your friends.

There's some good stuff on the dsi shop. Check out gaia's moon and shantae: risky's revenge. And ketzal's corridors just came out which looks good. Don't get Dillon's rolling western, though.

Just wanna say FF:Theatrythym or whatever the fuck is a way better game than it seems on paper. I've also been balls deep in Monster Hunter since it came out.

I know this is a necro'd thread and all but Fire Emblem is the dopest.

#48 Posted by 8Bit_Archer (239 posts) - 1 month, 6 days ago

Fire Emblem

Luigis Mansion

Mario Kart 7

Super Mario 3D land

I highly doubt this year old recommendation thread is still relevant, just saying.

Really. I've played my 3DS a good bit since I got it, something I wasn't even considering a year ago. And I've got other games to choose from!
