The most I've played of Zelda II is probably...nope, I don't remember ever playing Zelda II.

UPDATE: Nintendo of America has confirmed this is the official lineup.

ORIGINAL STORY: The first phase of Nintendo's 3DS Ambassador program will begin rolling out on September 1, bringing early adopters a set of 10 NES games. We've known five of the games, but Nintendo of Japan has announced the other five, too--and there are some classics to get excited about.

The full list is as follows, with the previously unannounced games in bold:

Confession: I've never played Zelda II. The differing perspective totally threw me off, and I just never came back. Shame. The stories of fighting Dark Link are legendary, though, so I'm not exactly looking forward to that, but I am hoping to cross off a sore spot in my pile of should-have-played video games.

These versions of vintage Nintendo releases aren't fully featured, either. The games will eventually have Virtual Console's standard "restore point" save and load functionality, but that's coming later. On September 1, you'll be limited to a "VC Suspend" option. Don't let your battery run out!

Nintendo of America has not responded to my request to confirm these games will all show up here, too, but the first wave of announcements were the same worldwide.

Man, I used to play so much Yoshi back in the day. I'm excited to play it again. It would be epic if they added some online play somewhere down the line for some of these old NES classic, but I know that would almost certainly never happen.

I feel better about just waiting and getting the system for $110. Which I did.

@rjayb89: Yeah I don't really care about this either.

I don't see any bold. However, good selection.

Free games!

I still want to hear about the rest of the GBA games that are coming.

I like all of this.

Imma play the shit out of Yoshi. I'm all about mode B.

The rest of the games are surprisingly cool. It'll be fun to revisit Metroid again.

Good thing my NES is hooked up to my tv atm

#14 Posted by Daniel_Newton (1166 posts) -

Meh. I'm far more interested in the GBA games.

#15 Posted by McShank (1629 posts) -

Nice list of games but until they add a save feature to them, who really cares? What happens if you want to play another game halfway through zelda? Turn it off and play the other game but lose all data of your current game? GJ nintendo for trying to say your sorry but yet giving out thigns that are still broken.

#16 Posted by mrsmiley (1065 posts) -

Yay! For the first time ever I'm happy to be an early-adopter haha.

Both zeldas and metroid make it worth it for me.  Love those games.  Being able to play em on my 3DS is gonna be swell

#18 Posted by TheMartino (136 posts) -

Zelda 1 and Zelda 2 are enough to keep me from being annoyed by the rest of the list.

Not that I should be annoyed. Free is free.

Excuse me I have a horse to kick.

I'm using chrome and not showing anything in bold. :\

edit: just tried in firefox and no dice there either.

@patrickklepek : why not just take the extra effort and break it up into two smaller lists? "Previously Nintendo had announced these titles, _____ but they are now joined by these titles: _____

Not worth it to have owned a 3DS...I pretty much have all of those in some form or another...3DS really needs some real games. For now I will play mt DS Lite with many GBA classics still playable thanks to it.

#21 Posted by JackSukeru (5906 posts) -

Zelda 2 is kind of hard, but it's one of my favorite Zelda games. The downward thrust is the best thing in the entire game.

Haven't had any urge to play it lately though.

#22 Posted by Alphazero (1536 posts) -

I love Zelda 2. Played it through twice. Maybe happy memories.

#23 Posted by Cybexx (1155 posts) -

Patrick,

I don't think Suspend works like you think its going to. Its not like GBA or DS Sleep mode. It will be like Virtual Console on the Wii so when you exit the game it will create a save state and restore that state when you load. So you don't really have to worry about battery power unless your mid-game and ignore the battery warning as long as you exit out of the game it should save.

The "Restore Point" stuff they are taking about is the new VC stuff they added to the 3DS Gameboy games where you can also at any time create a save state and restore it at any time. It makes games like Super Mario Land even easier because you can just create a Restore Point before a boss and just load that up when you die or run out of lives. Its the type of functionality PC emulators have had since the beginning but Nintendo has shied away from implementing until now.

I'm pretty sure you can still save within the game itself. They just haven't added save states, basically, unless I'm reading this wrong in which case just ignore me.

Three of those games are kinda lame. I would have much preferred SMB2 and 3, as well as PunchOut!!.

Hope the West gets a slightly different NES selection.

#26 Posted by Nefhril (72 posts) -

Zelda 2 was awesome and still is, played it on my NES last year :D

Yo what up Dark Link!!

I'm sorry but when I saw that picture I read it as "Please let me come inside you. Help."

#29 Posted by carlfoster91 (85 posts) -

Other than the inclusion of Metroid I am not happy with the last five games. I was hoping for Kid Icarus and, If they really wanted to be cool, a localization of Mother. Even mario 2 or 3. dammit.

BALLOON FIGHT

#31 Posted by Alex_Carrillo (280 posts) -
@McShank If the games came with save features then it will have that. They're talking about save anywhere save states, and that'll be coming later.

Calm your entitled gamer indignation.

Ah DK Jr.... I remember spending countless hours playing it at summer camp in the arcade. Still love that old game =)

#33 Posted by JJOR64 (18916 posts) -

Seems alright. At least I'm not paying for them.

#34 Posted by MideonNViscera (2257 posts) -

Something tells me I'm gonna fuckin hate these games when I play them again. A few of them I've played so many times over the years that they don't even have any nostalgia left to them, because they've pretty much always been around in some form. They're great NES games, but they're also the past that never went away haha

I hope the GBA games turn out to be good because I haven't really played anything for GBA.

Nothing I give a shit about at all. Oh well.

This might be the worst ambassador of something I've ever been. I mean being a Spotify ambassador was pretty worthless, but this might even be worse.

No bold here either. Using Firefox 6.0 for Windows.

The 3DS continues to be one of the least interesting platforms of recent memory.

#38 Posted by Neezie (118 posts) -

I never received a message saying I was an ambassador, really worried I won't get these.

Nope. Not even a bit. If you look at my previous posts I've even discussed how good of a job I think Nintendo's done of handling the whole situation. As someone who purchased a 3DS at $250 and never really touched it, I'm not angry at all. They were remarkably honest for a huge company and seem to have delivered a program that most of their fans are content with.

That doesn't, however, mean I have to like the content they're giving me as an ambassador. I don't think I'm entitled to anything at all. I bought the device at full price knowing a price drop was imminent and that there was nothing to play on the system. Nintendo does not owe me a damn thing. I'm simply stating that of what they're giving me, none of it interests me in the slightest.

The full list is as follows, with the previously unannounced BUT EASY TO AQUIRE games

#46 Posted by Zidd (1838 posts) -

I have higher hopes for the GBA games. The catalog published by Nintendo on the GBA has a lot more potential.

#47 Posted by BiG_Weasel (524 posts) -

So, let me get this straight- Nintendo is trying to get me to buy a 25 year old game that's been released on nearly every system since the NES?  Where's the new stuff, Nintendo?

Gee Patrick, thanks for the stealth update, now I just look crazy. Fortunately I rarely ever close my windows.

So people are actually gona rebuy nes games? I mean come on, these things can be found anywhere. Nintendo needs to stop milking these old games. Just put them in the brower for free for anyonne with a ds3.... Or put it on a nice page where anyone could play them on a ds3.
#50 Posted by MordeaniisChaos (5730 posts) -

Man, I feel worse and worse for all you poor saps every time. All of the games I didn't recognize are just clones of Mario's origin story. Blah.
