    The 3DS has what looks like an IR sensor that is beside where you put the game cartridge in. Does anyone know what it is used for?

    The DS doesn't have a port to connect with accessories (like the link cable port on the GBA), so it was probably put there for that purpose. At least, that's how the "circle pad pro" accessory works.

    Unrelated: I still think Nintendo fucked up big time by not putting that second circle pad on the system. I'm playing Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon right now, it's pretty great but the controls feel pretty gimped compared to the original, a second control stick would go a very long way in any game that requires 3-dimensional control.
