The official name in Japan is the DSi LL
In Europe and America, it will be called DSi XL
The device is supposedly aimed at the elderly, but those bigger screens are really drawing me in. I might just hold off on picking up a slim DSi and pick up the big one instead.

Thankfully I can just use a normal stylus instead. It does look hideous doesn't it?

This is actually smart by Nintendo because I know a few old people that play the DS. That means there must be quite a lot out there. I am checking my calender to see if April 1st came early though. Just seems really weird and unexpected.

Hehe.  I had the same reaction as well.  But, I'm a glass half-full kind of guy.

I can see why they make it a different option as the bigger screens have an upside for some (eh, bigger) and downside for others (lesser visuals as the resolution is the same) so it shouldn't be just the one. Too bad it doesn't have a normal DSi next to it so we can see the size difference. Edit: Er, duh, I'm blind and didn't notice the DSi there, lol. That's quite a bit larger then, I don't think most gamers will prefer it, stretchy visuals.

You know what they say about guys with big ass hands. And with a DSi Phat, it will defiantly make me popular with the ladies. =)

It's not the default stylus, you are given two, the regular one slides into the DSi as per usual. The larger one is meant for older users.

DSi LL will feature two 4.2 inch screens, offering 93% additional area over the current DSi's 3.25 inch screen size. The LL also has a wider viewing angle than the DSi. Nintendo states that this will allow friends and family to gather around and watch others play. You may also notice the speaker outlets  have turned into a hexagonal arrangement which is larger  - this could mean it's slightly louder than the current model. In terms of internal functionality, the two platforms are the same. However, separate from the system itself, DSi LL will offer users a couple of bonuses. Nintendo will be including two different touch pens with LL. One can be stored in the system similar to the current touch pen, although it's about four millimeters longer than the current one:

But this way I'll finally be able to beat Elite Beat Agents :P I don't think most games will look much worse save maybe for those in 3D

I dunno, depends on the game I guess. Some can look cool and retro with big ol pixels, others just messy.

Final Fantasy Gaiden will look awesome on one with it's pixel-cute art style.

Games that use the stylus in the way Ninja Gaiden does should play significantly better also. This may encourage more such action games, if it does end up being released in the West, which I think it will do..

that looks really awesome. It looks from here like the outer shell will be glossy again, i don't know about you guys but i don't really like that too much for handhelds.. seeing as your handling them all the time, but whatever it looks cool.

"DS iLL" sounds much cooler than "DSi Phat"

I normally prefer black handhelds, but I have to admit this Burgundy model has me very interested.

It looks sexy and classy:

It's confirmed as coming to Europe.. at some point, so I imagine it'll be released in the US as well.

But I'm struggling to really see the point.  I guess I can understand why some would prefer a bigger system, but the increased price seems a bit much for what it is.  And I skipped over the DSi because I didn't feel it added any notable changes to the DS Lite.  I don't see why I should care about this one any more.

Flipnote Studio should be a lot easier to use with this, the fact is I struggle with the current DSi even with it's slightly larger screen.

A bigger DSi? Not the direction I expected Nintendo to go in. Still, ghastly stylus aside it does look kinda cool. My only problem is that the price is being jacked up too high for me (it's going to be $220 even in Japan) and I agree with Jeff Gerstmann (check his Twitter feed) that this has come along way too soon after the release of the original DSi.

I came into this thread expecting a video of someone sitting there eating a burger for 5 mins. I can't really believe it's actualy a thing. I guess it makes sense, though.

I remember within months of Nintendo releasing their first Brain Age title, older consumers in Japan instantly complained about not being able to see the screen or being able to use the stylus effectively. So really, for those people who these DS's are really designed for, it is the perfect time. Jeff ain't no granddaddy yet, hell, he's not even a father yet...unless that talk of him getting it on in a Burger King is true.

Jesus Fucking Christ Nintendo. PLEASE STOP WITH THE REVISIONS! For fuck's sake we are on the 4th revision of a 5 year old handheld. Please stop and just make a DS 2 or whatever is really next.

Why complain when you have no intention of buying it?

Nintendo have no plans to release a DS2, not when the current model does incredibly well and dwarfs any feeble competition by Sony PSP worldwide.  There has been rumours of them striking a deal with GPU manufactuer Nvidia, which will see them provide a hybrid CPU, but any new handheld will take until 2012 arrive.

Nintendo throughout their history have always provided numerous revisions to the handheld range, and with great success I should add. Why should they as a company not wish to make money by doing the exactly the same?  This DS is targeted at a older audience in need of it, clearly not younger users like yourself.
