I still love my GBC and I don't know if anything can beat that just because it was my first ever handheld. The amount of time I put into Pokemon Yellow is just ridiculous.

Yes. Criticizing the save files and region coding of the DS takes a lot of insight.
I'm not trying to insult that it's your favorite portable console of all time, but as simply "The Best Handheld Console" its library just isn't diverse enough.

Criticism is criticism and unsolicited at that.  I don't really see your point.

I wouldn't even slightly feel insulted if your disagreed with my personal choice of favourite all time handheld console.  I am not an island, so if you insult me, you insult others.  It isn't an insult.

I don't see how you come to a conclusion about the lack of diversity though.  That is its strength.  What deficiencies do you see?

If you say car racing, I sort of agree, as the DS just doesn't do car racing well, except for the rare exception.  Everything else is well catered for and more.

I think the DS is a rather good handheld and I definitely prefer it over my PSP, but I think I'd still go with my GBA back in its prime over the DS.

I'm talking about the whole action genre in general. Anything fast and combat-based. And sports games.

Agreed on sports games.  There is a lot, but few good.  Tiger Woods 08 was actually a surprise to me though - very good.  I always tell people if they love sport games a lot, get a PSP as well as the greater graphical power makes it better for them.

Also agreed on action when you are specific to shooting in a modern sense.  There are games like Moon and versions of major titles, but they are not great - apparently, but they are reasonably good.  These games are no better on the PSP though, as they are all quite average as well.

As they are both genres not of my taste, I suppose I don't notice them.

Not enough action? There is action to spare! Castlevania, Ninja Gaiden, Grand Theft Auto Chinatown Wars, and those are just the ones off the top of my head. Then theres the shooters like MP hunters, Dementium, Moon, and i've heard COD is decent. And i'd call TWEWY an action RPG

I used to own a DS Lite but I'm partial to my PSP. The PSP is an amazing system for gaming, comments opposite to that I just can't wrap my head around.

The original GB was ahead of my time, my GBC was only used for Pokemon Blue, and I was never very partial to the GBA. Not being a fan of RPGs probably had something to do with that. However, I was stoked about the DS ever since its appearance E3 04. It is definitely my favorite handheld, and I have happily stuck with my launch unit despite its aesthetical shortcomings compared to the Lite and DSi. I have my PSP to look sexy anyways.

I can't get my head around the fact the PSP is so uninspiring.  Nothing has got me spending quality time with it.  Not even my children bother to use them (I have 2) and I don't recall them playing a game on them for over a year.  I have near 40 games, so it isn't a lack of choice.  I really don't like how it feels to hold or how it plays (controls) and the bigger screen and greater power just doesn't make it any better.

It has some very good RPG titles on it that I thought would get me in, like Disgaea which I only play the DS version (which is the same game).  Go figure.

Perhaps you just don't like console quality games in your hands. The PSP is my favorite system and I never would of been as heavily into handheld gaming if the PSP didn't exist.

I have amongst others:
God of War
Burnout Legends
GTA Liberty City Stories
GTA Vice City Stories
Loco Roco (that was actually quite a good game - something different)
Need For Speed Underground Rivals
Pirates
Final Fantasy I
Final Fantasy II
Tekken Dark Resurrection
Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness
Tales of Eternia
Valkyrie Profile Lenneth
Field Commander
Everyboby's Golf
Wipeout Pure
Final Fantasy Tactics

You tell me.

I didn't buy those games (and many more) thinking I would dislike them.  They just felt wrong and couldn't get me to stick with any of them.  I am still going to get the newer Final Fantasy games and a few more RPG in some futile hope that I will play them a lot - but I am not confident.

It isn't a criticism of you, so don't take it personally, I am sure many like yourself enjoy playing with it, I in my house, no such love.

While my games list isnt as extensive, i own severel of the games he named, either on the PSP or somewhere else
Socom
Darkstalkers
God of War
Madden
Parappa theRapper
Tekken Dark Ressurection
Valkyrie Profile Lenneth
Katamari (I love it, despite the flawed controls)

Also of oldschools list, which i own on other handhelds
Final Fantasy 1 and 2
Final Fantasy Tactics (actually dont own anymore. Sold it)
Disgaea DS

While the PSP is great, The DS is better. Obviously not in the technical sense, but as far as game selection goes, there is no contest

Yes, but not by a lot. I think the touch screen and game catalog make this the best portable gaming system ever IMO. The original Game Boy was pretty epic and Apple's iPod is pretty intriguing, as well.

I have my iPod Touch and frankly, the idea of playing games on it does nothing for me.  I saw someone play a football (soccer) game on it and having your fingers all over the screen looked unnatural.  I just can't see my favourite RPG games working on it, unless we are talking a stylus and not fingers and virtual buttons.  And I am a Mac man  :-)

What kind of games do you usually play the most on it?

A man who likes the classics  :-)  I can relate to that.  There isn't a big number of the Nintendo 1st party titles that I don't have.

Well, the DS can actually compete with the home consoles of today in games, something that hasn't happened since....ever.

That is one of the reason I own a Wii and a DS lite is for the classics, I love playing old school games.

Well said sir.  I couldn't agree more.  My collection is about to top 100 games and I could be very satisfied if it was my only console as it satidies all my main  gaming desires.  The GBA was very good, but had limitations that stopped it being the complete console the DS is for me.

It's about equal to the GBA in game library.

As a system, it gets topped by the PSP because this one has downloadable games and better screen.

The PSP library is nothing compared to the DS and imo, the DS plays so much better.  The PSP feels wrong as I have been known to say.  Plus, the DSi will have a good range of downloadable games when VC hits.

i enjoy having a PSP, but for a console like that it needs two sticks instead of one, and as is Katamari feels all wrong. As for games, the PSP just doesnt compare.
I mean, the DS has Golden Sun, Elite Beat Agents, Castlevania OOE, Chrono Trigger, TWEWY, Final Fantasy IV, Pokemon Gold and Silver, Contra 4, Advance Wars, Ninja Gaiden, a good sonic game and Grand Theft Auto.
That list by itself tops my entire psp library. by a lot.
