Nintendo was founded in Kyoto, Japan in 1889 as a manufacturer of hanafuda playing cards. The company went through several small niche businesses before becoming a video game company.

I ask this because my overall interest in Nintendo as a whole is at an all time low. The WiiU is interesting in concept, but Nintendo properties aren't what they used to be for me. I didn't grow up with Nintendo as I was more of a Playstation kid and had very few N64 games. So I don't have a deep emotional attachment to them like older people. The last Nintendo games a cared about were Metroid Prime and Wind Waker as I feel they were the best games of that generation. So do you still care about Nintendo?

Ya I certainly do. I am really excited to play Paper Mario Sticker Star. I also seemed to be one of the only people that really liked Skyward Sword despite its flaws. The Super Mario Galaxy games are my favorite games of the past decade. The Mario and Luigi series has been fantastic. Each of the past new Fire Emblem games has been better than the rest, and I am super excited about the 3DS one. Xenoblade Chronicles was one of my favorite games of this year as well.

Overally lately I have been dissapointed with Nintendo's output, but I have no doubt that 6-12 months from now they will release something amazing for the Wii U and I will have to get that as well.

Yes. Despite there being less and less games that I want to play from them, they still make some games that I really enjoy. Plus, nostalgia. I can't just toss aside Nintendo after all of the memories I have of their products.

consoles, no but when it comes to games i can still get behind a new Nintendo IP or even another sequel but i'll never have anything to play it on and invariably end up playing it at a friends house or later in the generation when i can reliably lend the console for a few weeks at a time.

I still have my SNES,N64 and Gamecube hooked up to various TV's. So yes, I still care.

A better question would be, does anyone at Nintendo still care? I still think they make the best pure 3D platformers, SMG 1&2 + SM3DLand are perfect iterative step from SM64. But the rest of their library of properties I find myself increasingly having a tough time caring about.

Remember guys, the last thing you want is a two horse race between Sony and Microsoft. That's a recipe for disaster right there.

Yes. While I think they make awful decisions and it seems more difficult for them to hit the high points these days, no other company on this planet can reach the quality of Nintendo when they're on their game. They're too big a part of my childhood for me not to care.

I grew up with the NES, and I still care. As the dudes at Tested recently said, you want Nintendo to do well because they're the only console-maker trying wild experiments, while the other guys play it safe. Some of their experiments turn out horribly, but that comes with the territory.

I think their 3D Mario games are still amazing, brilliant. I enjoyed Ocarina of Time, but think all their 3D Zelda's since are boring bullshit. Metroid Prime rules. Xenoblade Chronicles is my second favorite release of this entire year. So yeah I still think some of what Nintendo does matters, and I don't want them to end up like Sega.

I was a nintendo kid. But now, I kind of enjoy watching them crash and burn. Nintendo fucked up with the Wii. They put out between 1 and zero worthwhile game a year for 5 years. That console was a terrible piece of junk when I got tired of playing wii sports and SSB with friends. Currently, I'm not excited for a single game coming from nintendo and the WiiU seems like a failed mess. I just hope they start making great game again and put them out on consoles I'm interested in owning. Or they can burn... I don't care anymore

Very recently I had a revelation that Nintendo knows how to do certain things flawlessly, and then other things the most clunky way imaginable. They coast on a lot of their franchises but every once in a while they come out with something incredible, also they have a whole lot of franchises that have plenty of talent behind them, they just aren't the franchises they wheel out every 2 years. Retro, the Galaxy team, Intelligent systems and the Smash Bros Team are probably all making stuff that I'm interested in. Not to mention they have 2 exclusive Platinum games coming out.

I sort of want to get a 3DS if they revise it just to play Mario 3d land and Fire Emblem Awakening.

As much as I care about any of the major Game companies these days. Probably a little more, since they have a lot of properties I really enjoy: Smash Bros., Mario, Metroid, Zelda, Pokemon, etc. Say what you will about stagnation or some ill-defined sense that since they aren't going grim and gritty they don't know what they're doing, but they haven't tanked a big franchise lately. It's more than can be said for a lot of companies these days.

Barely. I will probably attempt to buy a 3DS in the next year because Fire Emblem is on it, and I wouldn't be surprised if the same were to happen for the Wii-U. But other than that somewhat irrational level of fanboyism, I can't say that they games they make necessarily appeal to me anymore, and the ones that do are uncommon enough that I haven't bought a Wii game for the last 3 or so years, aside from Fortune Street because I like torturing my friends with crazy Japanese monopoly. Super Mario Galaxy and its sequel were excellent, yes, but my opinion on Zelda has descended into apathy at this point.

The thing for me is that I grew up on PC/Sega stuff mostly, but the snes had huge appeal still and holds some of my favorite games of all time. But I don't feel like anything is being done with there IP that interests me anymore aside from the important N64 games Mario 64 and Zelda nothing on it appealed to me much. Then the DS came out and it became the outlet for a lot of the crazy japaneseness that has gone missing from most consoles now a days, and hey Pokemon is kinda fun still. the gamecube i kinda skipped over entirely other than a couple rounds of smash brothers at my friends. I did buy a wii and i regret it now.

People talka lot of shit about Actavision and there mining of franchises but at this point Nintendo has done the same to Mario, and you could argue Zelda as well wile less frequent the structure has not changed much from the 64. So no i do not care one bit about Nintendo any more, they have interesting hardware this time but it feels kinda half way again.

    TLDR: no

Don't really care about the WiiU at the moment but I always care about Nintendo. If they bring their A game, nobody can compete with them. Still, I thought that Skyward Sword, NSMB 2 and Other M were mediocre at best. But Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3 and Twilight Princess? (Yes I like Twilight Princess, deal with it). Amazing, probably 3 of my top games of the entire generation (yes I do own other consoles)

Even if you don't care about their games, I think the industrie is better with such a fucking weird company like Nintendo.

I still care about Nintendo but not as strong as before. What worries me now is that Nintendo is focusing too much on hardware that they are neglecting the software part. Instead of using the time and effort to create new IPs, they are releasing the same old games and titles to help compliment the new control scheme.

It was an interesting notion at first when the introduced the Wii controls in 2006 but after toiling with it for a few years, I became more attached to other consoles because in the end, I want to play new games with HD graphics, traditional controls and new titles, which the Wii was not capable of doing.

Even though the Wii U has HDMI and quite possibly a wider range of games, I'm still not convinced with the GamePad. To me, it looks like an expansion for the Wii and not an entirely new, next-gen console. It's all flash and no substance.

Nintendo, we salute you for always being innovative over the years but this time, we kindly ask you to tone down the innovation bit and to focus more on the games than on hardware.

It would be hard to say I don't.

Nintendo has basically been games to me my whole gamer life. Roughly a third of all games I own are Nintendo titles. In a stranded on a desert island situation, they'd be publisher/developer catalog I'd take.

But the Wii really killed a lot of my enthusiasm for their various properties and right now looking at the WiiU I just don't see anything compelling. But that may change. If nothing else I hope Nintendo survives in the handheld market. The DS was a great system and the 3DS looks to be finally getting better.

I think Nintendo is a fantastic company that needs to get their heads out from under the rock and start giving consumers something more than a gimmick that wears off. They also need to let go of whatever bullshit philosophy for online social recognition and just either copy & paste or innovate with it. The lack of an achievement system on the Wii U sours my possibly purchase. It may be stupid to many, but having achievements has enabled me to further enjoy parts of the game I wouldn't have experienced.

Absolutely. As soon as a new Mario/Zelda/etc comes out for the WiiU, I'm buying that fucker. Nintendo makes the best games, and I'm not missing out on them. I'm just going to play all my third party stuff on a Sony.

And don't say they've lost it. Skyward Sword was pretty metal.
