Nintendo was founded in Kyoto, Japan in 1889 as a manufacturer of hanafuda playing cards, it went through several small niche businesses before becoming a video game company.

Do you think their next console should be without motion controls?

It's not going to happen. They had too much success with it to go back. The best they'll do is continue to offer some games that have optional Classic Controller input.

I loved all of the pre wii systems, i just dont like where nintendo is going, the ds as well, u have to put actual effort into the controls, and that to me is pointless.

No, I don't.

@lolicanseeyou: Sony and Microsoft are both moving in that direction too.

I have come to really not like the Wii motion controls at all. Way too janky. But some sort of motion control? Meh. I'm not against including it, it's just that there are so many other things I'd rather have in a console. The problem with PS3 and Xbox 360 motion control systems is that they're add-ons, and not integrated. Maybe I'd think differently if it were an inherent part of the system and they actually work as advertised (unlikely, in my opinion).

I have yet to see any games that really demonstrate the potential of motion controls within a hardcore gaming setting. I *could* be convinced, but haven't been. Until then, I don't care.

Motion controls are great. My favorite thing to happen in gaming this generation. I look forward to trying Move and Natal.

As long as they improve on the tech then absolutely.

With the success of the wii, they'd be insane to remove motion controls for the wii's successor.

Almost as gimmicky as 3D. Should be done away with.

No, I loves me some well  implemented motion controls.

People who haven't tried since the Wii launch three years ago really need to shut up about this.

Personal highlights this gen: Wii Sports Resort and Dead Space: Extraction with the HotD hand cannon, especially reloading.

Awesomesauce.

I'm having a hard time imagining a new Nintendo console without motion controls. It's gonna stay and I'm happy for that.

Do I think they should ditch the motion controls? Yes, absolutely. Do I think they will? No way in hell.

They'll probably invent a holodeck or something.

It should be as it is now on the Wii and DS. An option for those who can use it well. NSMBWii didn't have a need for it, so they didn't use it. That's how it should be.

It's going to be 100% motion controlled.

There is no logical reason to go back to older controllers.

If it isn't too much to ask, that some games would have regular controller support, other then that it has been ok, not bad nor good, too be honest I don't have many wii games that really uses the motion that much (yupp, it is true).
Unless Mario Kart is a good example or?

#23 Posted by gaisma (3 posts) - 2 years, 10 months ago

Doesn't really matter much because you can always just use the regular controller if you just loathe the motion controls.

It's too big to stop now.

I love the motion controls and I honestly don't see how one couldn't. I do however think that it should stay limited to controllers, I like to be able to sit down and play my games. I guess a lot of "veteran" gamers just have to get used to using motion controls, it does feel a little weird after having used regular controllers for so long.

There's a reason why the motion controls were so successful, people like it.

Optional, I think motion control can work, but even if it worked great I still wouldn't want to use it very often. Except for maybe menus and stuff, like the Kinect dashboard.

@MattyFTM: But you have to remember nintedo was crazy enough to put em in in the first place they could take them out and say hey look where the only people now with a regular controller when sony and microsoft go the way nintendo did.
#29 Posted by bartok (2371 posts) - 2 years, 9 months ago

I don't care what they do with the controls for the next Nintendo as long as they are fucking crazy. I hoping it mirrors the weird fleshy organic console of the Cronenberg film Existenz (can't wait to see Ryan's take of that film on TANG).  All I really care about is that Nintendo acknowledges their online thing sucks and that HD is the future.
