My guess is that there is a tilt sensor in the thing that tilts the image if you tilt the device. It'll probably look quite normal if you hold it completely still.
Thank God I haven't bought any upgrade to my DS (even though I wanted to, 'cause it's old). Now that there's a successor, I know for sure where I'm putting my money.
That's an actual DSi game using the camera to orient, not a concept video or anything of the sort. I'm sure they'll have some actual 3D tech in 3DS.@gunslingerNZ:@CL60: Found a Demo of how they think they might be doing it over on 1up.com and it looks like i will actually be able to use it! Fellow cyclops of the world rejoice!

The new DS will have 3 screens. Confirmed "Going on name alone, I don't read 3 screens. Although it OBVIOUSLY has two meanings. Think about it: (3DS) or
(3D)S - For the use of 3D technology. Also...
3(DS) - where DS stands for dual screen.
Last time I checked, 3(2) or 3x2 still equaled 6.
6 SCREENS!! Confirmed!
This announcement officially makes the DSi XL the new GameBoy Micro.
I guess history does repeat it's self.
I WANT EVERYONE WALKING DOWN THER STREET PLAYING A DS WITH 3D GLASSES ON LIKE IT 2033 NINTENDO WHY WHY!??!!
Seems like 3D functionality would suit a totally new handheld or a new PSP version better than a new DS iteration. The main reason I like my DS is its one of the few places where games are usually still made in the classic 2D style and feature cute little sprites which are unlikely to look any good when given extra depth.
I still need a DS and will be buying an XL. Maybe it will reduce the amount of DSi to DSiXL sales, but its a full year away, probably released in Japan first, so we will see how patient people can be.
After seeing what Infinite Space looks like, the XL will be nice to have in the meantime. March = tax time so many people will have extra money.
I don't mind the year between this and the DSi. I've been taught by Nintendo not to buy the first pass of the new handheld, just wait for the better version later. See GBA SP, DS Lite.
Whether or not I get this depends entirely on whether or not the hardware gets a bigger update than bad 3D stuff.
OK Nintendo, you got me. I bought a DSi XL because my Lite broke years ago, and you pull this out. Nice joke, you win.
Yeah. What they've yet to announce is that the 3DS is not actually a portable platform. Its more of a gaming "station." The setup and practice will be very similar to the interactive touche screens in Avatar / Minority Report. 3 screens x 2 in a wrap around format. This thing's going to be sweet!! Also a $200,000 price tag.
I think this is how the 3D would work, especially since the 3DS needs to be able to "read the movements of the player" as said by Mr. Iwata.

It's a DSiware out only in Japan, it gives you the illusion of 3D as you move the DS from left and right.
The latest report claims that the screens will be 4" across diagonally measured. I think that they are about the same size as the current DSi XL. Joystiq Originally, I was very "meh" on this device, but the more information that leeks out, the more interested I am. If this thing is not just another tired remodel of the DS, then I am all for it. If it is, then I'll pass and wait for the true DS-2 whenever that comes out.
