Nintendo Blurts Out an Absurd Number of 3DS, Wii, DS Release Dates

The Wii U may still be a ways off from having any sort of concrete release date or identifiable games beyond the tech demo-y amusements shown at E3, and the third-party ports we still know little-to-nothing about, but that doesn't mean Nintendo ain't got some games coming over the course of the next year. After all, the console-maker does still have the 3DS, DS, original Wii, and various digital platforms still hanging around, ready to play some damn video games.

I was really worried I wouldn't get my required dose of Kirby-brand cuteness this year. Color me relieved (and pink).

Nintendo has released the upcoming release schedule for all of its various platforms, at least insofar as it's currently known. Plenty of big titles, such as The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword and Super Mario 3DS, still have semi-nebulous "Holiday" release dates. However, a few biggies now have firmer dates, the highlights of which I'll run down for you before sending you off into the barely navigable wasteland of Nintendo's full lists.

On the 3DS front, Star Fox 64 has now been locked into the admittedly awkward release date for a flight-based game of September 11th. That's the only Nintendo-published game to get a firm release at this juncture, but multiple third-party titles, such as Shin Megami Tensei :Devil Survivor Overclocked (August 23rd), James Noir's Hollywood Crimes (August 30th) and Rayman Origins (March 13th, 2012) have been locked in.

On the regular ass regular DS, Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2 has settled on an August 28th release, while Kirby Mass Attack will drop on September 19th.

Not a ton to report on the Wii front, though feel free to scribble down on your calendar that Ubisoft plans to release Smurfs Dance Party to stores on July 19th, and, in a clear effort to tap into the too-long-ignored "unemployed shut-in with an unhealthy addiction to the Game Show Network" audience, will drop both Family Feud and Price is Right games on September 27th. Also, a company called Game Mill Publishing is releasing a game called Country Dance 2 on November 1st. I can't confirm or deny whether this is the same Game Mill that released Big Rigs, but regardless, I totally expect to see a copy of that mailed overnight to me from the Whiskey San Francisco offices, with a note attached that reads "DO THE JOB."

If you'd like to see an insanely long list of things nebulously listed as "HOLIDAY" or "2012" and sometimes even "TBA," go ahead and check out the full list of dates below. I've attempted to reformat this into semi-readable text (and even put Nintendo's first-party business up top, defying their rigid alphabetical formatting), but even still, I can barely deal with this list. For serious guys, it's super long.

That's a bit sad. The games shown at E3 sold me on a 3DS, but it looks like they'll be coming out right in the middle of the holiday rush or later. Hopefully I'll still be interested in the system during the holidays or afterwards - I'd have one now if there was anything decent to play on it.

During Nintendo's conference, they said Four Swords would be coming as a free downloadable (I believe it was DSi?) in the fall. Didn't see that one here though.

#21 Posted by PJ (1158 posts) -

Seriously? Are they really releasing StarFox on Sep.11? Didn't ANYONE at Nintendo react at all? Not that it really bothers me (I'm not american) but it seems that its a little tactless to release a flight combat game that exact date.

And if it were for the Wii, people would complain its not for an HD console. Babies are never satisfied.

Why would a free game they make no profit from be on the release schedule largely geared toward investors?

  DO THE JOB!

#27 Posted by thehowlingman (55 posts) -

Why does any of this matter? Its a release date for a fucking video game. Its not like Al Quaeda flew spaceships into our shit. Its not even a game about planes, or towers, or terrorism or anything. Its just a fucking date that a video game is coming out on that happens to be the anniversary of an American tragedy. Nobody else cares because there's not even a small resemblance of any direct correlation.

DS seems to only have movie & TV games. Only interesting game on the DS seems to be Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor 2, which as they still haven't released the first on in the UK means I should probably throw my DS in the bin. Guess I will have to decide on a 3DS (once they fix the battery life) or Vita or just using my iPhone for on the go gaming.

Can someone explain this to me?

Sega: Square Enix, Inc. Heroes of Ruin™ Early 2012

Is that a typo or some crazy ass collaboration. Also, I thought Devil Survivor: Overclocked was coming out this month. Highly bummed out because of that.

Edit: Upon further reading, Animal Crossing TBA? Fuck that. But Sonic Drift 2 and Sonic Triple Trouble? Hot damn.

HOLY SHIT. That looks like some decent third party support to me although i only just glanced over the schedule

  • Mario Kart™ Holiday
  • Super Mario™ Holiday
  • Animal Crossing™ TBA
  • Paper Mario™ TBA
So... they've still not put release dates for anything I care about. Awesome.

Funny thing is, Last night i was literally talking to a friend about the one 3ds title (Starfox) I was looking forward to didn't have a release date. Guess that answers my question. Finally I'll have a 3ds game on my 3ds.

Devil Survivor 2? I knew about the Overclocked version for 3DS, but had that been announced already? I liked the first, could be interested in another.

wait until they have their usual event in the fall. or maybe even gamescom.

they're obviously not announcing something randomly in a release list when they were coy about it even coming out at all just five days before during effin E3.

Its about time they brought out a new Paper Mario game. Wait, its on the 3DS? God dommot nintendo.

Oh no... they're releasing games for that new platform that people complain there are no games for....

When was I complaining about the 3DS having no games?

And again, only derivatives, rehashes and kids' games for the 3DS.

Dear developers: if you don't make the games, noone is going to buy something from you. Don't blame those R4 cards (too much).

Devil Survivor 2 and Rhythm Heaven are probably the last games I'm getting for either platform. I wonder if Atlus kept Takami Asano as the composer or did they go back to Shoji Meguro.

God damnit Gamemill. Country Dance 1 just came out like 2 months ago. And nobody bought it. I know, 'cause I had to put them out on the shelf and rearrange our wii section because we received so many copies of it.

Cave Story, Super Mario, Mario Kart, OoT, Starfox, Kid Icarus, Bit.Trip all out by year's end. Pretty happy with the 3DS's line-up. It remains to be seen if this will boost the system's success or if it continues to cough and sputter, but I'm glad that I took the plunge on the system at launch. That might seem crazy, but I've actually really enjoyed my time spent with the 3DS and have gotten more out of it than I did the DS in a similar timeframe.

The lack of Xenoblade or Last Story on that list makes me very sad.  Really Nintendo, the west still likes RPGs!
