Stuff we learned from todays Nintendo Direct

#1 Posted by Fallen189 (5050 posts) -

I'll just throw up the notes I made during the JP version (American one is coming up in 2 hours)

Kid Icarus Multiplayer with a ton of different weapons/characters 3DS.

Fire Emblem, only had opening movie 3DS.

Theatrhythm - Final Fantasy 3DS.

That weird feudal Japan Pokemon thing DS.

Mario Tennis 3DS has online play.

Fatal Frame Wii (Or was it 3DS? Hard to tell)

Some Mario Party like card based battle thing.

Football game which hopefully is e-shop cuz the graphics were Snes level.

KH: 3D Dream Drop Distance 3DS.

Rune Factory 4 3DS.

DQ Monsters 3DS.

Nintendo e-shop RPG that looks like it uses AR to capture party members.

The Rolling Western- Some game that has a "bad-ass" armadillo, and the stages seem to be made up of using the goron roll from Majora's Mask and rolling into shit to kill it. Had some tower defence bits. E-shop.

Wii Virtual Console is getting Game Gear titles.

Gameboy games for 3DS e-shop (who the fuck doesn't have a ton of gameboy roms on their pc/psp already?)

Some screen mentioning Bandai Namco, Sega and Capcom, didn't show anything though. So this could've just been a thankyou screen or something.

Etrian Odyssey 4.

Brain Training for DS .

Walking/Working Memory? Looked like another brain training thing.

Monster Hunter 3G, don't know why they showed this again, think it was showcasing dlc quests.

Future stars Project Mirai? This was just a title card.

SwapNote shit.

Things I am interested in - A LOT. If we could get those within a year, I would be so happy. Hopefully Etrian Odyssey is 3DS.

The Pokemon...tactics game looked banging

According to Andriasang, it's a remake of Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly. Yes, it's for the Wii.

This was a rather disappointing presentation, but perhaps something more interesting gets announced in their North American edition of the stream. That is very unlikely, however - probably just the same announcements minus the Japan-centric ones.

It certainly looks interesting, I will give it that. Whether it actually works or not is another matter. I do have high hopes and low expectation.

As a 3DS owner, it's too bad it was a DS game. Might be cool anyway, but that's definitely a limitation.

I don't. I haven't got one. I must be a good person (see technically not up to knowing what to do).

What did Mario Tennis 3DS look like? Just standard Mario characters playing tennis? Or more of an RPG-like storyline thingy like Mario Tennis Power Tour for the GBA? I'd kill for another game like Power Tour. It was awesome.

@MattyFTM:From the European version (which sounds like it was mostly the same as the japanese with subtitles) it seemed like the former, at least no RPG elements were shown in the video.

#13 Posted by MattyFTM (14423 posts) -

@Eidderf: Dammit. That sucks.

The American version of the conference with Reggie instead of Iwata is on at 2pm GMT. You might be able to glean some more shit there!

Good to see Gameboy games coming to the VC, I'd pay good money for the original Pokemon Red and Blue if they can implement local trading via wi-fi.

They also confirmed a European localisation for Nobunaga's Ambition. Take that people who doubted it would see an English release!

#18 Posted by bibamatt (1089 posts) -

Hang on - the e-shop already has Gameboy games!

err ... Game GEAR

Gameboy games were on the eShop since day one. meaning last June

see above please.

Okay, I don't get it. Why are folks saying that the 3DS is finally getting Game Boy titles? There's already a whole bunch of them on the eShop.

EDIT: Right, I figured it was some misunderstanding.

#21 Posted by GunslingerPanda (4847 posts) -

So where do I go to watch the Ameriland one? It'll probably be shit, but 3DS news is 3DS news.

#22 Edited by RobertOrri (1151 posts) -

Here.

Highlights include:

Showing off eShop games and announcing Dillon's Rolling Western for release today (they didn't show Mighty Switch Force in the montage, those jerks)

Some boring discussion about Kid Icarus and also attempting to sell you the 3DS Stand that comes with it

Mario Tennis Open announced for 3DS, launching May 20th, by Camelot

Xenoblade Chronicles cover announced (it's the obvious one)

The Last Story being brought over the US, courtesy of XSeed Games

TL;DR - You're really going to have to wait until E3 for any significant announcements

#23 Posted by ZenaxPure (2569 posts) -

That American one made my day. There is a surprising amount of Wii games I am interested in buying this year... Last year was pretty scarce for myself but it seems I will be playing it quite a bit before I tuck it away on a shelf somewhere for my Wii U.

Also oddly interested in Kid Icarus for some reason now. It reminds me of a Treasure game but with a bit more depth to character customization and such.

#24 Posted by JackSukeru (5946 posts) -

That Xenoblades cover was the one I voted for, for the European release. I'm glad to see it being used.

Now I sorta want to look at the European (japanese with subtitles) version, does anybody have a link?

#25 Posted by BonOrbitz (2243 posts) -

So is Nintendo doing this to take some of the limelight off of the Sony Vita or to take a load off their E3 presentation so they can focus on the Wii U? Or both?

Good on XSeed for bringing it over, and good on Nintendo for allowing them to publish it here!

Fuck your raised fist in triumph! It is not celebratory enough! In fact...there we are. Oh joyous day! Finally, American audiences will get to experience the type of obscure games I yell at them about for not playing! Let us take our merriment to the streets!

Only thing I give a shit about is Etrian Odyssey 4 and Fire Emblem. And that's only if they're not on the 3DS. I have no interest in buying a 3DS for two games.

@Bocam said:

Yes, what I meant is that they're trying to sell you the idea of the stand itself. One of the men in the video proclaims himself to be a "stand guy" and professes his love for it. I'm still unconvinced.

Sorry for not being clear enough.

Cheers, I just lifted that shit from a notepad doc I made on the fly

Camelot is making the Mario Tennis game, so I'm holding out hope for an RPG style one like the past two.

Mario Tennis GBC was probably the game I put the most time into.

The European version had Japanese voice with English subtitles? I know I've definitely seen the European version with English audio as well. How many audio tracks does the European version have?

#35 Posted by JackSukeru (5946 posts) -

@BisonHero: Apparently not, I just assumed it would be subtitled rather than dubbed, or whatever. I meant that I wanted to see the European version of the Nintendo Direct thing, but since it was apparently the same as the Japanese one only with English I wanted to clarify that.

#36 Edited by crusader8463 (14426 posts) -

Pokemon TBS game? Excuse me while I go change my pants. Only thing I don't get is why that guy has mew two. If this is supposed to be old timey Japan then Mew Two shouldn't exist yet because he is a science experiment from the future. Unless he time travelled to the past with the help of celebi....

#37 Posted by MikkaQ (10329 posts) -

Wow Nintendo... Game Gear games. Way to hit it out of the park, I'm sure they'll sell gangbusters. Who doesn't want inferior 8-bit versions of Genesis games and direct Master System ports?

It was English voice over with BRITISH voices, from what I played.

Etrian I think is DS (could be wrong), but Fire Emblem is definitely 3DS. Seriously, if you love Fire Emblem like I do, it is worth getting a 3DS for that alone. Fire Emblem will give me a real reason to play the 3DS solidly.

I have almost no idea what we're talking about anymore, but my original comment was entirely me assuming that you were talking about Xenoblade and its versions.

#41 Posted by JackSukeru (5946 posts) -

@BisonHero: Ah, How confusing. For the record yes the European version had both Japanese and English (british) audio. You could turn on the subtitles for either versions I guess. I prefered the Japanese voices slightly but it has the same issue as Resonance of Fate with no option for subtitling anything that's said during battle, so I found myself switching over inbetween story sequences just to hear the different things characters would say to each other.

Now the battle chatter doesn't really relate to the story in any way so it's not that important, but it was still fun hearing. I never want to hear the "watta buncha' jokers!" victory quote ever again though :P

Oh my GAWDDDDDD I know! How bad was all of the Britishisms in the combat chatter? I mean I'm English myself, but JESUS CHRIST
