I think what jadeskye meant was in his opinion most great games for Nintendo's consoles are made by Nintendo, and Nintendo's console's 3rd party titles aren't usually as good. It was worded a little weird, but I'm pretty sure that's what he meant, not that Nintendo makes 3rd party games and they're bad.

In terms of game publishing, second party refers when a console company (like Nintendo) publishes a game that was not made by a studio they own (like a third party developer like Square Enix).
@Willy105: And is therefore still a third party. There are only first-party and third-party developers. Second-party developer is a made-up term used to refer to certain third-party developers.
Although this topic is dumb it does make me think of characters Nintendo is not using effectively. Say Donkey Kong, when have we seen a Donkey Kong game that wasn't Donkey Konga?
But yeah Mario is definitely not in every Nintendo Wii game.
