As an unkempt older man waking up in a hotel room with amnesia, the player must slowly piece together their identity, on top of doing what appears to be their job: working as an officer of the Revachol Citizens' Militia to solve the mystery of a dead body swinging from a tree nearby, and find out if the striking Union workers nearby might have something to do with it. There are plenty of paths the player can take, from making their character a super-professional cop, to a drug-fueled vigilante, to somewhere in-between.
Gameplay
Disco Elysium is a point-and-click mystery game that has you walking around, interacting with various people and objects. Your responses to certain events or challenges may affect how others see you in the story, and what ending you may receive.
Some decisions may be a literal "roll of the dice" that take your character's stats into account, plus the difficulty of the action you are trying to perform. Those decisions are highlighted White (can be repeated after some time) or Red (one time only).
