Overview
Founded in 2011, Nordic Games came to prominence after they purchased JoWood Entertainment, a publisher based in Austria that had recently undergone bankruptcy. This purchase also included JoWood subsidiaries DreamCatcher Interactive and in turn their graphic adventure-focused division The Adventure Company.
In 2013, Nordic Games would go on to acquire the lion's share of intellectual properties from the dismantling of THQ. They acquired the Darksiders, Red Faction, MX vs. ATV franchises among others. Later the same year, Nordic also purchased the Silver and Desperados IPs from Atari.
In 2014, it was announced that they also bought the rights to use the THQ brand on future products. In 2016, the company rebranded itself as THQ Nordic.
To avoid confusion, the parent company known as THQ Nordic AB based in Sweden changed their name to Embracer Group in September 2019.
