I have played about 10hours of both the Ps2 and the Wii version of Okami.
I am quite torn as to which version is the best. Okami on Wii looks sharper and has more vibrant color, but it doesn't nail the Sumi-e graphics filter at all, and the wiimote waggle is not used in a meaningful way at all (and the nunchuku-dodging is terrible). The Ps2 version though, looks quite bland even though the artstyle fits better. I feel the control got tighter with the Wii version, and I am playing with a much greater flow, because of the speed gained with it. But I don't feel Ready at Dawn mapped the controls in the best way possible in the Wii version, although they could blaim Nintendo for very akward face buttons.
Overall, I am leaning toward to Wii version, mostly because of the faster drawing capabilities, looking outside of that very important control mechanic, there are some +:es and -:es on both sides.
What do people think? On which console do you get the best Okami experience? And please don't state that they are virtually the same, because even though the changes might be minor, overall the different versions look and play quite differently.

Okami - PS2 or Wii version?
I somehow missed out on the PS2 version of Okami, so I didn't hesitate once to purchase the Wii version. I am greatly enjoying it and feel that the bursh techniques were meant for the Wii. I probably wouldn't like using the analouge sticks to paint after playing the Wii version.
I haven't played the Wii version, so I can't offer up any meaningful comparisons, but by no means did the PS2 version look bland.
I don't own a Wii, but I'm glad they released it to so another audience can experience it. It's a great game. I don't know which is better, but I enjoyed what I played on the PS2 and I hope others receive the same experience on the Wii.
It might be a question of preference, but I am not a big fan of how many developers use Waggle for button presses. It works quite well in Okami for the most part, but timing combos is a bit harder and more tiring, especially in the earlier parts of the game. I also dislike the way you waggle to dash. That is very poorly implemented. I would rather press the 1 button. Luckily there are tricks to dashing so you could get around waggling all to much.
I do however like that the loading times have been cut short significantly compared to the PS2 version, and I am a sucker for "no load time games". The graphics are also very vibrant in every sense, and now I have compared the two version a bit more closely and the Wii version is quite enhanced in that area.
DarkLegend: How is the PS2 version better "built"? I'm note sure what you mean. Are you refering to the control scheme perhaps?
I never owned a PS2, and the game got a lot of good press back in it's initial release so I picked it up for the Wii. First off, let me say the game is amazing, I find myself playing for large blocks of time without realizing I only had 20 minutes to spare. However, I've found that occasionally I'd have to endlessly redraw lines as the game was not recognizing I was drawing a line or a specific design... It's minor, but can get frustrating.
Well I have never played the Wii version. But loved the game on PS2. From what I've seen (as mentioned by AaronBelfast) the decision on which version to get would come down to what control method you prefer. Having said that, apparently there are some shape recognition issues with the Wii version that are thankfully not present in the PS2 version.
Based on that I would say the PS2 version is better.

I have played both versions, and I personally liked the Wii version better. The controls were horrible, especially when trying to attack in combos, but the more vibrant colours and the load times really helped a lot.
I had both versions, and found that the controls on the Wii just feel awkward at times, and attacking can be unresponsive. Also, when you're running around the game world, you have to use the D-Pad to swivel the camera around. Not really optimal. I wish they just let you use the GC or classic controller.
The more muted colors on the PS2 version actually pull off the art style the game is going for much better, and some of the visual details in the game are being blown out on the Wii version with the increased color saturation. Though, maybe that's not a problem on an HDTV.
Speaking of an HDTV, the Wii version is in widescreen and progressive scan, but the PS2 version can be upscaled if you've got a PS3 that can do BC.
One problem, or perhaps more a troubling issue, that I would like to point out is that all the artwork in the Wii version remains 4:3 (480i). So when playing in widescreen mode the background gets stretched and comes off as a bit awkward. At worst it might put you off your playing mood.
I knew about the ps2 version long before the Wii version came out but I didn't buy it as I had heard rumors of the game being ported to the Wii (and as we all know, it proved true). What I'm wondering now is if I ought to pick up the ps2 version for a better (?) experience of the game. Any pros or cons on that ladies and gentlemen?
The PS2 version. Controls are way better, and the drawing works surprisingly worse on the Wii for me.
"The PS2 version. Controls are way better, and the drawing works surprisingly worse on the Wii for me.Yeah I got to agree.

Although I've never tryed the Wii's Okami. But I've never been to good with brush strokes in real life so give me a brush and have me wave it around in the air...yeah no.:P

I got to try it in Art 1. And I never took art again.:|

Well, I'd take art, but I think I'll end up trying to paint and stuff in mid-air :|

Yeah and then have the teacher ask you to draw a tree so you put a dot on the paper.:P

Or try to blow up teachers I don't like by drawing a circle with a small tick :P
"And they say drugs are bad for you.:PBut they help you play games! :D
Or you could cut you're wrist with a brush and ink.:P"
j/k kids, stay away :|
Oh man, that's gotta hurt :P
Yeah good stuff.......err that is used by bad people.:P
Wouldn't that be random? Walk up to some emo guy with a paint brush and ask what he's doing. Get the cutting self answer, look at the emo confused, and then be told to wait. Then a big cut appears with blood. Or maybe take off his arm.:P
I never played the PS2 version, but I did beat the Wii version. So I can't compare them, but I will say the Wii controls aren't perfect.
The brush controls for some reason failed to register correctly for me, like it worked about 60% of the time. Also waggling for attacking feels strange.
Overall, the game is excellent but controls were a mixed bag.
I don't own a Wii anymore, and the only version I've played is the PS2 version but I guess it boils down to personal preference. You can probably find the PS2 version for cheap though.
i played both, and I do prefer ps2 because of the controls
