I happen to absolutely love this series and even moreso than any American show, wait on pins and needles for a new episode every week. I was just wondering if there were any other fans of this awesome, awesome anime series on the site
One Piece
One Piece is a manga/anime created by Eiichiro Oda about a boy named Monkey D. Luffy who left off on a grand journey through the Grand Line as a pirate, making many friends, discovering new islands, and defeating foes along the way.
Any fans of this on GB?
Never watched the Anime, been reading the manga for a couple of years though, currently at Thriller Park arc.
The manga is just way to far along for me to read it. I keep up with Bleach and Naruto sadly though. Probably cause I have some crazy idea that they might end soon and since I'm already so invested might as well keep trucking.
When I was a kid maybe, I read the comic book either in Elementary or Middle School.
To kiddy for my tastes today... Then again, the shonen of Shonen Jump literally means adolescent boy.
I'm starting to get back into anime. Used to watch all the toonami ones and a few others then I stopped, now I just finished watching ghost in the shell and am watching full metal alchemist which I like so far. But to answer your question one piece doesn't look like it'll appeal to me.
That being said, Full Metal Alchemist is a good series as well. Can't go wrong there.
I love the show, i recommend it to anyone who at least likes anime a little bit. The problem i usually see is that people think that its too kiddy but they dont get far enough into the show to see that it changes quite a bit and becomes really fantastic. Sure its long but that just means theres more to enjoy, I personally like long shows and i realise that some people dont but i think that if anyone ever gave it a good enough chance they'll grow to love it.
@PhilESkyline: If you watched the 4Kids version on Fox or whatever, then you got worst possible version of it. Horrible voice acting, unnecessary and stupid censorships, and a general failure to understand what its target demographic. Funimation has since acquired as of last year(?) and has done a much better job. If that's the one you've seen, well, at least you tried.
Well, for someone like me who grew up with Shonen Jump starting from elementary school, One Piece has a very formulaic style similar to many other cartoons that originated from that publishing house.
Shonen Jump knows how to tug the hearts of boys ranging from elementary through high school really well. But it's painfully obvious to me.
I am a fan of the zaniness of the series. I think the series has just as many episodes of The Simpson as of this moment. Sadly, I quit watching many ongoing series like Bleach and Naruto. I am a fan of many half season or full season contained series with a well told story that has an ending. I have a better list of recommended anime that equates to the same amount of time you may of dumped just on that one show.
It would have to be the original uncut translated and not the cartoon network crap.
I might even say the sub'd japanese original.
How far into it did you get? The mood and style to the show change alot later on through it.
Also im 22 just so that im not mistaken for a high school kid.
Let me clear something up: never, ever watch the American version of the show. The 4kids one is just about the worse thing anyone has ever done, and the Funimation version, while much better, is still pretty crappy. The Japanese version is the only way to go on this. I understand that you're reluctant to sink that much time into one thing. Hell the only anime series with more episodes that I'm aware of is Detective Conan and I lost interest in that one about 30 episodes in. I get that it's a large time investment, but oh god, it's so damn good. In the first hundred episodes or so, they don't really tell you all that much about the world. 446 episodes in thpugh, and I can say with confidence that it's the most well thought out and interesting world I've ever seen in any sort of fiction. I do love anime, but nearly all other series are crap compared to this one.
It got bumped at a good time. One Piece has a couple of games coming soon. Namco-Bandai and Tecmo-Koei just announced a One Piece Musou game, which will supposed like play like the Dynasty Warriors games.
Also, a sequel to One Piece Gigant Battle, a multi-player fighting game in the style of Jump Super Stars, is coming in November. You can see a couple of screens of it here.
Anyway, I have been and continue to be quite fond of the One Piece manga. It shows no signs of slowing down and I will happily stick it out for however much longer Oda wants to go with it.
