They're selling that information so they can better cater to you! Don't you want all your internet traffic integrated into targeted ads? This is the future!" "Man I never get it." ------------------ This is interesting to me, because lately I have been getting these targeted ads when I do the net. I knew something was wrong when I had bought at an online irrigation store(of all things!) and started seeing adsa for them next to news articles. It was a computer parts store featuring the Graphics card I was researching and bought, before.
It's pretty dumb that EA won't just submit to steam, this shit is getting stupid. Get with it you dip shits, your slander on the COD franchise and this Origin garbage both come off as pretty unprofessional to me.
I was actually starting to like EA before all this crap, but hey, at least they're still a step up from Activision. I don't support Activision by buying their games, I dislike them that much.
I've been supportive of most of EA's decision concerning Origin, but that is just filthy. Come on, Electronic Arts, address this. Quickly.
How ironic that Brad was waxing poetic, at least in the hypothetical sense, on how he was excited to see where Origin would go, if it would be a true Steam competitor. It's not even in the same category as Steam. Go fuck yourself, EA. Surely there has to be a better way for you to make money.
like the girl/guy who goes out on one date with someone of the opposite sex, goes through your wallet while you're going to the bathroom and then goes directly to Facebook and tells EVERYONE!!!
You know I didn't mind the minor annoyance of having to have Origin going to play BF3, but this actually has me considering the console option. I just don't see how they can win when every move they make with this program seems to screw over the customer.
Again? Yeah, no.and pirates come to the rescue once again
i hope if they do patch in the opt-out feature that some tech-savvy dude checks to make sure its actually not still collecting information.
With all the shit they are doing to PC users i'm seriously thinking of boycotting it in every platform.Good thing I'm getting it on Xbox then.
This article is fair and well written. I'm glad no one resorted to sensationalistic headli...
Oh it's Alex.
Carry on, Internet.
@FacestabMan said:Everyone's getting angry about the "selling it to third parties" thing, along with the "gathering data from users" thing.I cannot see why people are surprised about this, to be completely honest.Companies gathering data from users. Its unheard of! Oh wait...
The accurately sums up my perception of EA.Bobby Kotick is spinnin sick brodies in solid platinum Bugatti out in the Activision parking lot right now. Way to go EA.
doesn't everybody on the internets do something like this?
Google does, facebook does. Your antivirus software does.
Just don't give a crap.
I'm not ashamed at staring at Miranda's ass (not like there is anything else to stare at during dialogue, bioware are pervs).
He's been writing articles on Giant Bomb, as well.Three businesses care about making money. I know this is all very shocking and upsetting to all of us.
Why is Alex reporting this? I thought he was on screened and this was Patrick's job.
Fucking Christ, I DO NOT want this bullshit just to play BF3. You're not making any friends here, EA.
People are making a huge deal out of this right now so hopefully my comments will put this into perspective.
The section in question:
You agree that EA may collect, use, store and transmit technical and related information that identifies your computer (including the Internet Protocol Address), operating system, Application usage (including but not limited to successful installation and/or removal), software, software usage and peripheral hardware, that may be gathered periodically to facilitate the provision of software updates, dynamically served content, product support and other services to you, including online services.
All this means is that they can use the information they obtain to provide software updates, dynamic content, product support and online services like Battlefield 3 multiplayer for example. BFD.
EA may also use this information combined with personal information for marketing purposes and to improve our products and services. We may also share that data with our third party service providers in a form that does not personally identify you. IF YOU DO NOT WANT EA TO COLLECT, USE, STORE, TRANSMIT OR DISPLAY THE DATA DESCRIBED IN THIS SECTION, PLEASE DO NOT INSTALL OR USE THE APPLICATION.
I'm going to have to have this installed because I'm getting The Old Republic so this is really pissing me off...
incidentally we need an honest judge to crack down on EULAs - contracts no one actually signs or agrees to before a purchase should not be legal. also their widespread use to push abusive terms onto the customer without compensating them or even showing a shred of intent to negotiate terms is pretty much the definition of an unenforceable (illegal) contract.
Since I still want to play BF3.
I will simply deny Origins internet access outside of the little time it needs to verify the game.
It still sucks and is distasteful, but hey one of the reasons to game on the PC at all is the ability to control your own operating environment.
I like Alex articles. He tells it like it is.You're right.
If this doesn't change I'm gonna regrettably have to cancel my TOR preorder :/
If it was just anonymous usage statistics, that's fine, but personal information? Come on EA, fucking seriously?
Its your call but Stephen Reid said this: " You are not required to use the Origin desktop client to download, patch or play the game client for Star Wars: The Old Republic."If this doesn't change I'm gonna regrettably have to cancel my TOR preorder :/
