Free & Legal Soundtrack Download links!

Posted by KillyDarko (1888 posts) -

I love both movie and game soundtracks and I spend ridiculous amounts of money on both, which is why whenever I find an online OST available for free and legal download, I usually jump at it-- as long as I like the content, of course.
Today I've decided to share a bunch of these freebies I've been slowly (re)gathering over the past year or so with the GB community.
Maybe you already have them or you simply don't care, but nonetheless, here you go :)

Also, and this is just an idea, but if any of you guys know of any other free AND legal downloadable game soundtracks, please do share their links with me-- send me a PM or just leave a comment on this blog entry/forum thread and I'll make sure to attach your addition to the collection as soon as possible (and naturally credit you).
This way, and since this blog entry is also featured in the original soundtrack's forum, it'll be easy for anyone interested in music for games to check out from time to time if there's anything new or interesting to download.
Note: Unlike the above, I'll keep these in chronological order, so that it's easier for people to check out what's new :)

Great post.  I love video game soundtracks.

How do you know if ones you find on the internet are legal?

I have found a couple in the past, but wouldn't pass them on if I could get in trouble for it.

Good stuff!  I like sound and tracks, so both together is pretty much the best.

Oh! Fallout Soundtracks! Thanks a bunch for the trouble of making this list!

Yeah, me too, I've quite the collection :)
And well, I only download stuff from gaming sites like Gamespot, Fileplanet (which is powered by IGN) and game's official websites or trusted fan sites. That's the only way I can make sure I ain't screwing up, to be honest.
If the ones you found fall into any of these categories, please link them to me and I'll add them to the list ;)

Thanks for the list, some of these are pretty awesome.

Here's a couple that I believe qualify:
You can get the soundtrack for the game Shank over at their blog. Link to the news post.
A GiantBomb user recaptured the Castlevania Harmony of Despair soundtrack a few months back. Here's a link to his post. (Full credit should go to him if this can be put on this list, not sure how "free & legal" this one might be but worth a mention :P)

Are any of these worth getting if I haven't played the game they're from?

Game Spot's Sound Byte feature frequently has soundtrack stuff you can download.

@ShadowConqueror: Well, it all depends on your musical tastes, but I'd definitely say yes. I've never played the Obscure games and yet their soundtracks are some of my favorites ever, for example :)

This is an awesome topic. You are an awesome person. Also, all of the music from the TimeSplitters series is available here, since they never released an official soundtrack:

Thanks! I will be sure to use this in the future.

I'm not really a big fan of video game soundtracks, with the exception of No More Heroes, Silent Hill 2 and Machinarium^^ Great topic though.

Thanks a butt-ton! I also love soundtracks of all varieties, and I can already see some gaps in my collection that will soon be filled via this list.
