For all you horror fans out there, Outlast comes out in a few hours.

There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of coverage but it looks like an Amnesia type game, where you have to run and hide instead of fighting the monsters. It received some positive previews recently and I think it will appeal to fans of Amnesia or Spookin with Scoops.

Of course, I could be wrong and it could end up being terrible but I'm definitely looking forward to trying it.

Isn't... Outlast a console exclusive whose demo I played on my PS3 when I still used that thang a couple of years ago?

You're a black stick-man in a sidescroller, climbing walls sideways with a funky green background to the game?

There was a lot of buzz around the game at PAX as the developers had set up a booth where you could test the game, and Outlast was apparently one of 'em 'must plays'. If you google the game, you'll read many first-hand impressions as well as a couple of real amusing anecdotes about folks panicking while playing the demo, one went so far as to demolish their entire booth in a fit of panic.

Couple of folks have been streaming the review copies of the game and I find this here trailer to actually be really representative of the game. Infact, I think it's actual gameplay, though clearly choreographed. To put it bluntly, it looks like a teriffic Amnesia clone; there's no way of fighting back against the enemies. The way that the game means to differ from Amnesia is that there's a great variety of enemies with different behavioural patterns so that you'll never really know what to expect.

RPS have some positive things to say about the game.

Seems like it's the first game from a newly formed developer. If anyone bought it and wants to compare it to Amnesia TDD here, that would be awesome, I'm interested in this.

I'm just going to wait until I've played it to watch the QL. It seems like the kind of game that would be somewhat spoiled by watching the QL.

Certainly a surprising release to me but one I am looking forward to checking out sometime in the near future (probably tomorrow, since that's my day off).

Awesome that its coming out a few days before Amnesia, although others may see that differently.

Played about an hour and I'm really enjoying it so far. It's very much a modern day Amnesia, although the monster chase sequences aren't scripted like they are in Amnesia. It's had some very scary moments so far including a jump scare that got me more than any other I can recall.

The game also looks great. The night vision on the camera really adds to the atmosphere.

I want to play it so bad but I don't know if I can handle it. Games like this are so interesting to me, but I just don't have the heart for it.

Really like the game so far. I just reached the basement and took a break. This game will definitely be one I play in short increments. I don't know if I could handle marathoning it.
