Overview
Paon, a Japanese developer/publisher, had no relevancy in the western world until the release of DK: King of Swing in 2005. This was the first DK adventure game since the Rare buyout three years prior, which meant it had a lot of expectations to live up to but unfortunately could not meet. Paon later made a more robust sequel in 2007 titled DK: Jungle Climber, and followed it up with Donkey Kong: Barrel Blast later in the year. Since then they have gone on to develop
Glory of Heracles and the Wii remake of
Klonoa: Door to Phantomile.
Paon also participated in the development of Super Smash Bros. Brawl. They likely modeled the Expresso and Squitter trophies - because while most of the game's trophies are assets from other games, those models are completely new.
