I'm going to be ordering a 3 day pass sometime this week so I'll be there! It'll be my first time going. Will you be there?

Dunno yet. Last year's was during my Spring Break, and that was the perfect time. Now my Spring Break is in mid-April and it seems like PAX East 11' is now in mid-March. I'd like to, I hope so.

#10 Posted by PsEG (3200 posts) - 2 years, 7 months ago

I'll probably be there, unless money gets a little too tight as March approaches and puts a good hotel out of my price range. Considering I've already purchased my 3-day pass and booked my flight, though, I'm not likely to back out.

Last time I was at a PAX was in 2005. I had a lot of fun, but since I didn't have any friends with me, it was a bit of an awkward and solitary experience at times. I'm hoping to drag a few like-minded individuals into the mix this time around in the hopes of amping the awesome up even further.

Tickets bought and flight booked!

I'll be there, this'll be my first PAX i'm really excited.  I went ahead and got a 3 day pass.

After going to both East and Prime last year, I will never go to East again.  It's like the difference between Disneyland and Walt Disney World.  One is a couple of theme parks off the freeway, another is a 47 square mile city.

I won't be going to PAX East 2011. 2010 looked quite enjoyable though, and I'm glad I won a 2010 Hoodie off Twitter at the very least.

@Erzs: I'll be waiting for you at LHR.

I'll be there! Going with a few friends. This will be my first PAX

I've got my tickets and Hotel booked. I can't wait. Last year was a blast and this year it should be even better. I hope Giant Bomb has a panel this year. If anyone can get there Thursday night and is of drinking age I would recommend the Pokecrawl. Went last year and it was a blast. I saw on team blue and made shirts for people. Can't wait for Pokecrawl 2.0.

I will be going. First time on the east coast. @rentfn:  What team are you on for the Pokecrawl?

#21 Posted by Marino (3466 posts) - 2 years, 4 months ago
@Matt: At least the flight will be shorter to the east coast.

What hotels are you guys staying at?  I'll be at the Intercontinental about a mile from the convention center.

@Marino I will be staying at The Boston Park Plaza Hotel & Towers
#23 Posted by benjaebe (2782 posts) - 2 years, 4 months ago

I'm going to try to make it there. Never been before so I'm pretty excited by the prospect.

#24 Posted by PsEG (3200 posts) - 2 years, 4 months ago
@Marino: I'll be staying at the Westin Boston Waterfront. I'm hoping the ability to easily walk/stagger over to PAX will make the experience all the better.

@Matt: @PsEG: Looks like Matt has the benefit of being downtown with more food/bar options, but has to take a cab to the show.  PsEG's got the benefit of practically living in the convention center, but gotta take a cab to go anywhere else at night.  And I'm somewhere in the middle.  Walking a mile to the hotel at 2 AM after a concert is gonna be rough.

@Marino:  It's only a half hour walk and there is a shuttle between the hotel convention center. On a side note we should definitely organise a GiantBomb meet up!
#27 Posted by RoboRobb (1033 posts) - 2 years, 4 months ago

I'm pretty much going, just need to get on booking tickets, flights, hotels.. yeah.

So stoked to meet the GB team for the second time!

#28 Posted by PsEG (3200 posts) - 2 years, 4 months ago

Taking a cab to have to go anywhere...that's something I can deal with, I suppose. I'm not looking to experience Boston that much -- just PAX and any Giant Bomb-related portions of PAX that might spill out elsewhere.

Out of curiosity, for anyone who's been to a Giant Bomb panel at PAX before, how early did a line start forming for the panel? I don't necessarily see a need to be stalker-esque levels of crazy for the Very First Seat™, but I'd like a chance at a decent seat near the front for anything that might go down.

@PsEG:  I was in the first 4 rows or so at PAX Prime last year and I got there about 1hr30mins early (I think) but I don't think East will be as popular as Prime so I'm not sure.
#30 Posted by Sparklykiss (1833 posts) - 2 years, 4 months ago

I'll be going. Pretty much my whole family wants to go, which is going to be interesting/awkward/an-absolute-disaster.

Matt is correct about getting there at LEAST an hour early.  And from my experience at PAX East last year, lines were sometimes longer than PAX Prime for some panels.  I think this was due to the fact that many of the panels I went to (i.e. Mega64), it was the first time those people had been to the east coast for any type of panel/live show.  At Prime, a lot of the people have been going for several years, so they probably don't go to the same panels every year.  But at East, it's all new.  And with this being the first east coast Giant Bomb related thing, I'd expect the turnout to be pretty big.

Long story short, I'd plan on getting to whatever theater it's going to be in around 8pm.

Anyone know if there will be a livestream or some such of the GB panel?

#33 Posted by Marino (3466 posts) - 2 years, 4 months ago
@Dtat: Highly unlikely.  I remember Ryan saying last year that it would be disrespectful.  I'm sure the video of the panel will be up within a few days though.

@Marino: Oh that's right I remember that now. Hopefully we'll get a video after the fact.

I'm confused. What would be disrespectful?

If I were to guess Ryan's thoughts, convention-goers might be a little miffed that a panel they've traveled to PAX East for is being streamed live on the Internet, as it takes away the live attendee's benefit of seeing something before everyone has a chance to witness it, and perhaps reduces the value of actually being at PAX a little.

There's probably fair arguments against this line of thinking, but it's somewhat understandable, nevertheless. Plus, it's probably easier to take a few days to edit and upload the video segments, rather than take the time and equipment to set up a live stream that might irritate some attendees.

What PsEG said.  And to add to that, these panels are usually scheduled back-to-back-to-back all day from 10:00 AM til sometimes as late as midnight.  There's usually a 30 minute gap between each panel, but most panels go overtime a little bit, which gives just enough time to get everyone out and let all the people in line outside in for the next panel.  It would be a logistical nightmare to try to set up a whole bunch of equipment on their own, especially since it's usually Drew by himself doing the video (obviously Vinny's on stage).  I guess they could have a laptop webcam on, but there's typically no WiFi at PAX and when you get 70,000 nerds in one place, there's typically no good cell service either.

Plus, sometimes (PAX 09), they do something special for the people who are there that isn't included on the videos that are uploaded to the site.

Just bought my 3-day passes and booked my hotel! So glad to be going to my first PAX, and hopefully meeting the GB crew after listening to them for years. WOOOOOOoooOOOOO!!

My girlfriend just bought us 3 day passes as an early Birthday present. Looking forward to it, but I don't know how much will hold her attention. Any Boston drinking is good drinking though, so. ..

Any Giantbomb meetups planned? I'd be down with having a few malty frosted beverages with fellow GB fans!

#49 Posted by Jayzilla (2391 posts) - 2 years, 3 months ago

If I did go, it would be exclusively to play the Guild Wars 2 demo.

#50 Edited by M3RPHY (237 posts) - 2 years, 3 months ago

I'm headed with a couple friends, my first gaming convention too! Pretty stoked.

@Keegs:

I agree, hoping to head to a meetup with some fellow duders. I've lived downtown for about 4 years now and learned the hard way there are too many tourist-trap/Masshole bars near Quincy Market. There are some great old-style boston pubs in the financial district (and closer to the convention center) with some delicious brew. Harpoon does a great brewery tour as well, right next to the convention center on the waterfront.
