A character from the Metal Gear Solid franchise and therefore a character of the overarching Metal Gear franchise, her only appearance to date is in Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker (set in 1974) on the PlayStation Portable and its re-release as part of the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker
A young Costa Rican girl who cherishes peace. She is studying the nation's Peace Constitution under the guidance of Galvez at the yet-to-be-sanctioned United Nations University for Peace.
She was held captive by the mysterious armed force initiating military deployment in various parts of Costa Rica. She, alongside Galvez, entreats the "Soldiers Without Borders" to eliminate the armed force and restore peace to the nation.
Her name, Paz, means 'Peace' in Spanish.
As mentioned in her bio, Paz needs Snake (Big Boss) and Militaires Sans Frontieres to free Costa Rica from the force occupying it as Costa Rica itself isn't allowed to create an army of it's own. This force captures Paz and is tortured, leading to scars. After escaping she convinces Galvez to find the MSF and use them to free Costa Rica.
After Coldman captures Paz again due to Galvez not being around to protect her (Galvez is actually a Russian who works for the KGB, who must remain hidden at that point in the game) it is decided that she would be better off with MSF where she'll be safe at Mother Base. In her time there she gets to know the MSF soldiers, commenting on how they're now fighting side by side for Big Boss despite being enemies when fighting for their respective countries.
Various characters take an interest in Paz including Chico (who has a crush on Paz), Strangelove (who attempts to seduce Paz) and Nuke the Cat (who she named herself). After Peace Walker's destruction and the defeat of Coldman several missions follow that involve retrieving Zadornov (Galvez) it becomes apparent that someone on Mother Base is helping him escape leading to the final boss battle of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker...
After Peace Walker is destroyed Paz is revealed to be a triple-agent like Revolver Ocelot, named Pacifica Ocean. She plays the role of the Costa Rican peace-loving teenager Paz (She's actually over twenty years old) for Russia's KGB under the order's of the person she knows as Cipher. She knows the full details of the forming of the Patriots, why they formed, and why Big Boss eventually left. It was Zero who took her in as an orphan and had her undergo training.
Her mission regarding MSF is to hi-jack Metal Gear ZEKE and with it either convince Big Boss to use his MSF to become a pawn in Zero's global dominance plan or to use ZEKE to nuke the East Coast of the USA and frame MSF for the act, labelling them as terrorists and enemies of the world. She was initially cold-hearted towards the people she was living with but began to grow fond of them, resulting in the revelation that her time with them was "the most peaceful time of her life." She tried to sabotage ZEKE to buy herself some more time with MSF as she was about to perform a duet with Kaz in a few days on the one day of the year that Big Boss and Kaz and planned to be MSF's day-off. Unfortunately Zero's second spy in the MSF had informed The Patriots that ZEKE was complete and Pacifica was ordered to carry out her mission. She realized herself that there was a second spy but never figured out who it was. "Spinning his tightly wound web of control. Leaving no room for individual will. Typical."
It turned out to be irrelevant because Chico discovered her attempting to sabotage ZEKE, forcing her hand. She activated ZEKE and challenged Big Boss once he refused Zero's offer. ZEKE was destroyed and Pacifica was shot into the ocean while inside ZEKE's pod. Her fate is left unresolved as she had scuba gear in the pod and has had deep sea diving training under the Patriots.
Metal Gear Solid V:Ground Zeroes
It was revealed that Paz had survived and was rescued near Belize, but was then kidnapped by her former employ Cipher and held at Camp Omega in Cuba and severely tortured. Chico then arrived in Cuba attempting to rescue her, but was also captured and held with her. They were both later rescued by Big Boss during Operation Trojan Horse.
After completing Chapter 4, Paz becomes a member of Mother Base. Her unique "Home Cooking" skills increases the morale of all staff members when assigned to the Mess Hall Team. After completing the fight with ZEKE, Paz can still be found in the Mother Base menu. Similarly to Strangelove's Memories, tapes containing segments of Paz's Diary can be found in the AI pods of the Type II and Custom variants of Pupa, Chrysalis, Cocoon and Peace Walker. When a tape is found, Kazuhira Miller will comment on why a tape would be there. The tapes document her time at Motherbase as well as her motivations for hijacking ZEKE. After listening to all of Paz's Diary, another conversation with Chico is unlocked.
Date With Paz
Once chapter 4 is completed, Extra Ops 67: Date with Paz is unlocked. Unlike other missions, the only goal is to seduce Paz by using Co-ops Communication to compliment her. Depending on the phrase, a red love heart will appear over her head indicating that her affinity for Snake has risen, or a blue broken heart will appear indicating that her affinity has dropped. Using CQC on Paz will result in Snake groping her chest, resulting in a swift slap to the face and a huge drop in affinity. To complete the mission a cardboard box must be equipped. Paz will ask if there's room for her too and will climb inside, the box will then bounce around for a while with the sound of giggling and grunting. By S-ranking Date with Paz all unique female staff members in mother base will appear in their underwear in the model viewer, as well as Paz appearing in her underwear next time you start the missions. Amanda's unform is also unlocked for use in missions by all female soldiers by S-rank this mission.
- Nana Mizuki provides her voice in Japanese. Tara Strong returns from MGS: Portable Ops in which she played Elisa and Ursula to voice Paz in English.
- Paz can be assigned to Mother Base once she joins MSF, she is best suited to either the Intel and Mess Hall teams but is competent in the Medical Team as well. She cannot be assigned to the Combat team and only has a rating of D in R&D.
