Ether Saga Online, never played it and I don't play mmo's.  Tho I know websites who advertise it, and I trust those websites.

I was trying out Shin Megami Tensei: Imagine for a bit. It's surprisingly well done for a free-to-play Aeria game.

While it's arguably not an MMO, I'd highly recommend Guild Wars.

Pretty much like any other MMO or Shin Megami Tensei game but the cutscenes are very well done and you get to fight alongside with all your favourites from the Endurance Run like Jack Frost... or Pixie.

Drift City was actually fun when I messed around with other people I knew, but only if you're gonna play with friends and it is really grindy. (Seriously though, you can't expect to buy/earn cars left and right as soon as you start)

Yea. Free MMO´s really arent comparable to payed ones in this day and age. And those that are really arent TRUE mmo´s. Guild Wars is a nice alternative but if you´re gonna be picky about it its really not an MMO.
If you´re looking to get into MMO´s go all the way. Dont stop at the halfway point that is free to play. It really pays off.

Guild Wars is an amazing game.  You can purchase the trilogy for a song now.   Money well spent.

Warhammer Online now has a free unlimited trial if you don't mind never progressing past level 10.  Still, for just tooling around it's a pretty neat idea, I think.  Play the game for as long as you want and try out all the different classes but you just can't improve beyond level 10.

A second option is Dungeons & Dragons Online which has now gone Free-to-Play.  It's just like a real MMO because it used to be a subscription based game.
