That was exactly what I was about to recommend. Also, how "new" do these games have to be?

    The Witcher
    World of Goo
Penny Arcade Adventures Episode 1 & 2 (still good games if you aren't a big fan of the webcomic)
    Sins of a Solar Empire
STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl + Clear Sky

Just a few that spring to mind.

Sam and Max.  Obviously start with Season 1.  There's actually some really free high-quality Source mods that have been keeping me busy for the past couple weeks.  If you have a Source game (CSS, HL2, L4D, etc.), try searching for some on Steam.  I'd recommend Insurgency, Zombie Panic Source, and Age of Chivalry.  Another casual game that I started playing recently is Peggle, although you've probably heard of it.  You can get Peggle Extreme (which is basically an Orange Box edition) to see if you like it.

You should try it anyway. Just play offline until you get decent at it. Like everyone else I would also recommend STALKER: SOC and The Witcher. You'll need a fairly good PC to play those games though, but Sins of a solar empire runs on almost anything.

Great list Hamz. I finally downloaded the demo to world of goo the otherday, I can't believe I missed out on it initially, its a very simple, yet fun puzzle game using physics. Its the kind of zen game that you don't get pissed off about, at least to what I can see.

Also there's a mod that is called Source Forts Mod in which you build bases using the Gravity Gun, which is pretty fun if you get into a game without Griefers.

Yeah, I just heard about that tonight while searching for some other mods.  It looks great.  I also found Jailbreak Source and The Hidden, which sound pretty cool.  You can find a whole list here.  Source Engine Mods

World of goo is fantastic, and in the same breath, I can also recommend Peggle, though I'm not sure how many people would agree with me on that.
Stalker is pretty awesome as well.

The Witcher is my favorite PC game, it's a brilliant RPG with great gameplay and an amazing story. I highly reccomend it. And Atejas reccomended Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines; this is also a very good game, however it is a niche game that may only appeal to fans of vampire lore and those with the ability to look past some blatant (albeit not game ruining) issues.

Edit: PM if you are interested in more details about these games, I'd be happy to help.

I was under the impression that Uplink was a superior gaming experience to Defcon, is this correct, Kush?
