    I am a total PC noob,  but I am thinking about getting into PC gaming and the 9800 GT and GTS 240   are the two cards that are in my price range. 
     
    But from broken info I've found online it sounds like they are the same card just re-named. 
     
    So, any experts care to set me straight?

    Uhhh no GTS 240 exists or atleast it is no longer sold. GTS 250 and 9800GT; the GTS 250 wins hands down.

    I'm thinking of getting into PC gaming too but I'm not sure if I can be bothered when I already have access to Xbox 360 to play most the games that don't come to PS3

    Nope GTS250>9800GT However for roughly the same price as both of theese cards go with the ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB/1GB Great card for the money.

    the GTS250 is a rebranded 9800GTX+, so yeah, GTS250 > 9800GT
