    Hello all,

I have Batman: Arkham Asylum for PC through Steam.  Everything was working perfectly with the game until I had to trace Harley Quinn's fingerprints in the Botanical Gardens.  I get to a point where I have to open a door and the screen goes black, I hear the sound that is made in Vista when a USB device is unplugged.  I end up having to cold boot my machine....any help or anyone that has experienced this?

Intel Core 2 Duo Extreme 2.8GHz
    4GB 667MHz DDR2 RAM
    1TB HDD
    ATI Radeon 2600XT Pro

If you need any other information feel free to ask.  Thanks for your help in advance!

    @rmillz87:
That is weird...the fact you're hearing a device 'uncouple' might mean a driver is playing up with whatever it has to render in the botanical gardens.

Tried updating GPU drivers or reinstalling them?
If so back up your save game and reinstall the game.

    i'll continue thinking about this.

@jadeskye: No sir, just the integrated sound with the computer.  I hate to open the can of worms on this, but it's an iMac running Vista Ultimate 64-bit...HOWEVER, I have NEVER had a problem with ANY game on this system.

@rmillz87: ah then you're operating way outside my wheelhouse. go to your control panel and sound options. lower your sound quality to the lowest version and try that.

if that doesn't work then i don't know what else to try. seeing if people who are running windows on macs are experiencing this issue too would probably be prudent.

Okay - This is what I have tried since last night  :-\

    1. Deleted ALL local content of Arkham Asylum from the computer and reinstalled - STILL HAPPENING
    2. Updated graphics drivers - STILL HAPPENING
    3. Made sure PhysX was off on all fronts - STILL HAPPENING

There has to be some sort of solution - it's really upsetting that the game just crashes when opening the door.  Has anyone else gone through this?

HOLY FUCKING SHIT!!!!  I was able to figure the problem out by just going one step further with the graphics driver update.....ACTUALLY LOAD THE DRIVERS!  I went digging after thinking that I loaded the drivers but found that I didn't!  Absolutely stupid on my part - thanks for all your help everyone!

@rmillz87: Was just about to tell you to update drivers. For future reference, that sound you heard, the one where it sounds like a USB is detached, that also happens sometimes when the driver fails. The driver fails, and thus doesn't recognize the graphics card - as if the graphics card became physically detached from the machine. The vast majority of all graphical errors occur because of outdated drivers. Good to hear you solved the problem and enjoy the rest of the game :)
