Best way to handle a beta key giveaway?

So, let's say that...hypothetically...a developer I know gave me a hundred beta keys to give away this weekend for a very highly anticipated PC game. Besides keeping a few for myself and my friends, I would definitely want to give the majority out to Giant Bomb users. I'm looking for some ideas on how to do this easily.

Subscribers only? Random? First come, first served? Contest of some kind? Nothing too elaborate. Any ideas? Thanks everyone.

It's too bad you can't use something like steamgifts, or something.

*like, where people enter into some kind of a contest. Meh, I hate when I'm tired and can't articulate my thoughts.

hm. That's a real quandary, . In the spirit of just doing stupid stuff for the sake of doing stupid stuff, perhaps you could have a really inane contest? Perhaps have people submit Halloween-themed photoshops of Giant Bomb. Or something much more random.

You could also just suggest that praising your handsome, wise face will grant someone favor in your final perfect judgment. I don't know. I'm not as smart and good with the ladies as you are, boss.

Is it Sim City!? Give them all to me.

  • Make a new thread with a title only people you think are worthy would click on
  • Copypaste them all into said thread

I'm probably leaning towards something like this...but I think it would annoy a ton of people having to try codes over and over until they found one that wasn't taken.

@MB: That's why you PM them to all your favourites (me). Oh god, I want to play Sim City so bad.

I agree with the obscure thread title, maybe start with a blog post not shared to the forums and then do so with the remainder.

Part of me is hoping it's HOTS because I've been unlucky enough to still not be in the beta.

Pick-a-number would be the easiest way to handle this. PM the winners codes.

Can you elaborate a little? Sorry I'm a little slow.

@MB: You pick a number, we guess, you PM people who get it right.

Yeah, make people pick a number, set a deadline, then run numbers through Random.org. Or something like that. I claim 42 right now, as I am going to be away most of the weekend, and I am really curious now...
