Hey there, I was wanting to upgrade my comp, and I need some help.
My current rig is a standard e520 Dell with a 8600GTS card.
I'm not sure about the Motherboard, RAM, Hard Drive, and DVD drive specifications, but I assume they're very crappy as they are stock Dell.
My computer sports a Core 2 Duo E4300 1.80ghz processor.
Anyway, the parts that I want to change are:
    The Mobo
    The Ram
    The Case
    The PSU
    and the Heatsink

    What I'm keeping:
    DVD Drive
    Hard Drive
    Processor
    Video Card
    Sound Card

    I have around a 500$ (canadian) budget.
Can you please recommend me something, I'm quite the noob.

Get 5 1 TB hard drives. At 80 bucks each, you can get 5 terrabytes for that money.

If you want it for gaming, at least 2GB Ram is a must in todays world, 4GB is ideal but may affect your budget.

Biostar TP45 HP motherboard is a good budget part.. also look for Asus, Gigabyte. DFI brands..

RAM: search on internet for compatibility with the motherboard you have chosen.( Get 2x2GB sticks total of 4GB)

Case:  I'm using Antec 1200.. and love it so far.. those dust filters really helps.. or you can look at some models from Coolermaster.

PSU: Anything from Corsair and PC Power & Cooling.... the wattage depends on your hardware.. don't cheap out on this.

Heatsinks:  Do a simple google search :)

Since i have sooo much free time ill help you out.

    Motherboard.

    RAM

    PSU

    Case

    Heatsink

    Video Card

Should come to about 487.94 USD before rebates.
    "
Great recommendation and thanks (I did have my eye on that case and PSU)

But I just can't afford it.
In the Canadian store, this all comes out to $742.58 (shipping, handling, CDN Dollars) and I can only spend a maximum of 500 bucks.
    Thanks a lot anyway.

Try directcanada.com,  NCIX.com (use pricematch from directcanada) or Newegg.ca

Price diffrence should be minimal compare to U.S.

That's juat an example.. I would double check the RAM compability with motherboard.

Sumbeamtech Core contact performs better, and crucial ballistix RAM is prone to FAILURE.

Antec 900s are gaudy and poorly designed.
