Before we get started I should make it clear that I know nothing when it comes to PCs. However I'm looking to get a good gaming PC, so, alas, I'd like some help in regards to this. Now I've been told this site here is good for assembling a PC, so if I'm to take this route I'd like to know what the hell it is I should be picking due to not having the slightest clue. But if you've got your own suggestions I'd be happy to hear them. Thanks!
Oh yeah, I should probably say I've got around £1,000-£1,500 to spend and I'll need a monitor, keyboard/mouse and speakers as well. Again, thanks!

@Hitchenson:
Don't get an integrated graphics card. Bump up the ram and spend some decent money on a graphics card man, otherwise you'll be kicking yourself when your games look like shit.
alrighty lets see here" @captain_clayman: Honestly, I've no preference. So whatever your personal pick is would be fine, dude. "

ok, ok wrong choice of words. but if you don't have any preference than ATI is the way to go.
i'm not saying one company is bettter than the other, i'm just saying ATI's got better stuff out right now.
sure nvidia's gonna put out their new cards soon, but knowing nvidia, they're probably gonna cost a lot more than ATI's cards with pretty much the same performance.

I've always used Nvidia until my latest, just because that's what I happened to start with, but from what I've heard the production on the recent stuff has been really crummy.

from what i heard it's gonna be like 500. i dunno, we'll wait and see. i have nothing against nvidia so if it is 300 i actually suggest that.
sorry but you gotta post UK links only guys... dont post any newegg stuff, those they are great for a reference for a build...

Just to make a few things clear...
You should buy:
AMD Phenom II 965 as others have suggested, the video card is fine, but I would rather suggest just getting a 5xxx series card to get dx11 and ddr5. Some have suggested very slow and crappy hard drives, keep in mind you want at least 32 mb cache and I would recommend getting a very large hard drive (1 tb mininum) and be sure to have something in case you need to back stuff up (not usb, but an extra internal). I would grab the corsair hx750 power supply and a gigabyte am3 sata6g/usb3.0 motherboard. The new amd chipset stuff just came out, that would be a nice pick. Reason for doing so, the pcb is twice as thick, so it allows things to run a lot cooler then other mobo's and you have more of a voltage tolerance.
I would highly suggest avoiding asus, I have had nothing but issues with them, especially something with an nvidia chipset (considering the sb fan issues on the nf4 mobos). Corsair makes some nice memory, just be sure to double check that you have the correct voltage. Lastly, when you pick out your video card, if you go ati grab an xfx one (lifetime warranty) and if you decide nvidia grab an evga one (yet again, lifetime warranty and the trade up program).
I forgot to mention the ddr speed. AMD's only run at 1333, I have had a lot of issues with running things at a higher mhz and the SPD data not showing up properly. Save yourself the trouble and grab some 1333 with the spd being around 7-7-7-20 if you can find it, but 9-9-9-27 will do you just fine.
yeah your probably right about the harddrives i picked, didn't even look at that side of things when i personally choose the harddrives for that build i posted, but they are the same harddrives i've personally got inside my machine and i have no problems at all with speed myself, but what i think is perfectly fine might not be to someone else lol
