Just curious to know how often everyone here backs up their stuff and starts over with a fresh format.

You should do it about every 6/12 months. I haven't done it in 2 years, I only do it when I have a drive failure.

That's about the time frame I do mine in. Its probably on average 8 months, but my roommate formats like every 2 months and he thinks I should to...He is a little format happy.

I don't back up my stuff but i should really...however I run an OS drive with software and games and the other 2.5 TB of space is full of media. Don't want to drop the money on backing up TV Series', Movies, Cartoons and Anime, maybe when the 2TB western digital drive drops in price i'll run 2 in a mirror or may eventually convert to a raid 5 setup so I have atleast some protection.

I format maybe every 6 months to a year. I think every 2 months is insane, if anything i'd use a norton ghost or similar like application to do a backup but that seems like a few hours i'd rather not waste. It's coming up on a year now and may do it when I get bored.

I back up more often than I format.  It's been 2.5 years since I last reformatted, but all my stuff is backed up from about a year ago (gotta do another one soon).  I used to format more often.

I say once a year is about fine. But I usally only do it on my main HD. My long term storage drive is just that, long term. It gets wiped about every 3-4 years depending on crashes and capacity.

I had my old laptop for about 2 and a half years, and didn't format it once. It was on it's last legs though. If I hadn't bought a new laptop a few days ago, I would have had to do it soon.

I hate how every game puts its save files in a different location, you'd think there would be a standard by now but noooooooooo I have to dig through every folder on my computer to round them all up.
