Our friend Scooper is currently playing Runes Of Magic and says it's an awesome game, but I can say one thing, that I have played almost every F2P mmo and eventually you will have to buy something in the cash shop to continue with a normal pace.
Runes of Magic is like an exact copy of WoW(There are probably a lot of those though). But everything more or less looks exactly the same thing as WoW.
I'm downloading Runes Of Magic right now but holy crap, it's taking forever. I'm getting off at 10, will it continue downloading or will I have to restart tomorrow?

I did buy member......... I lost alot of my life to that game, got all the way to level 75, I will never be the same..... so much grinding.... just make it stop...... i don't want to buy fish off some 11 year old anymore.... make it stop.

i spent a year playing that game and got to like...level 70.. that game scarred me for life and i will never...EVER go down that road ever again.

I played Runescape. . .got bored. Played FlyFF for a long time,eventually got bored. Got WoW, not bored since. Seriously, if you are really deep into MMO's you'll just suck it up and get WoW eventually. But. . .if you can resist the call of the warcraft, I applaud you,sir.

I dunno why WoW is so big, i played it for 3 weeks and never picked it up again. I play Dofus with my brothers now

to be honest, i started playing some kinda trial for it, and at first, i was like this isn't so bad. And then I played a bit more, and realized that I could be going down a path that I may not recover from, and decided to get rid of it before it was too late. I'm too socially awkward, self-conscious and emotionally distant to start playing MMOs, it would only make it worse.
If you're looking for MMOs where people actually play them (ie lots of peeps), WoW, Ever Quest, Runescape, Ragnarock, and Maple Story are what you should play or look into.
For actual interesting MMOs, check out Mabinogi, Ether Saga (it's actually pretty good as well), and FlyFF somewhat deviates from the norm.
Awhile back, there was Mythos's beta, which certainly had something different going for it, but that has currently ceased due to change in studio and new devolpment. As long as they kick out the incredibly repetitive dungeons from that MMO, it'd be worth getting back into.
There's certainly more, but that should keep your occupied for a bit.
EDIT: Disregard WoW and Ever Quest. Didn't notice the free part of that.

Yep. I gotta say I've been bored many a time and gone searching for some Free MMOs to mess around with but with all of them I've almost instantly come up to the wall of "if you want to actualy have fun you need to pay". I've been playing Runes of Magic for about a week and a half now on and off and have made it to around level 30 and haven't for 1 second thought I was at a major disadvantage to people who are buying diamonds which is the game's secondary currency, used to buy things like certain mounts (although you can rent horses from stables for a small amount of gold), a bigger house (yes you can have a private house in this and move your furniture around exactaly as you like, I put a bunch of chairs on my wall... shut up that's why) GuildHalls and some things like that that don't seem to have any real benefit other then to level a bit faster (you can buy things like +100% exp potions that last 2 hours for instance but you'll also get some of them in giftbags as you level for free)).
The games just basicaly just a shameless ripoff of WoW and it doesn't really hide the fact. It obviously doesn't have 5% the charm of WoW with it's many races and unique looking areas but you gotta remember this is free. It does also have alot of unique things. For instance you can have 2 classes per character and each class has primary skills and secondary skills. If say you're a priest with a secondary class the rogue. You'll get all the priest primary skills which include the meatiest heals and you also get to use all the secondary priest skills which are important but not as great and you'll have access to all rogue secondary skills too which are some nice melee attacks and stuff. The cool thing is at any time you go to your house and you can switch up your primary/secondary classes so now you have all rogue skills but only priest's secondary skills. This basicaly means your character can do 2 different tasks you just gotta switch out your class to what you need. The only bitch is you gotta level both classes independantly which kinda sucks but oh well.
I obviously haven't gotten to the endgame yet (I believe there are 55 levels right now) but as a mid-level character I am still having fun and that's surprising for me.
I'd say the game's definantly worth a pop, you got nothing to loose apart from your social life but let's face it you didn't have one anyway. I've managed to play it in 2 - 3 hour chunks every day or other. Give it a whirl.

Guild wars is an MMO you play buy yourself because of the stupid instanced zones. Besides and you still have to buy it, there just isn't a monthly fee.

Actually TBO Perfect World is one of the few Asian MMORPG's that isnt a grindfest. It all in the questing if you try to grind you will get nowhere. "
I don't think you realize that you're grinding, I mean even the kill 20 enemy quests are basically grinding. Killing the same things over and over. "
There is that but not as much as you think. It happens a lot at the start of the game but that happens in every MMORPG (even WoW) and also keep in mind this is only my opinon.
