HDMI switcher advice.

#1 Edited by Mister_V (1434 posts) -

I have just got myself i nice new monitor. However it only has one HDMI port instead of the two the old one had. This has led me to look at getting a HDMI switcher so i can switch between my PC and 360/PS3 without having to go behind the monitor every time. I only need it to be 2 inputs one output but it needs to support the monitors max res of 2560 x 1440 and from what i have seen not all switchers do this?

I must admit this is a bit of a grey area for me as i have not looked into these before so any advice recommendations would be very much appreciated.

If your monitor has displayport or DVI I'd plug the computer in with displayports/DVI and the consoles via HDMI and switch between them with the monitor's input button.

The only problem with that is I use the audio out on the monitor for my speakers. DVI does not carry audio does it?

@mister_v: DVI does not carry audio but if your monitor has a 3.5mm jack for audio in it should be for the VGA/DVI ports. Connect the audio out (if present) to your speakers and it should put the right audio with the right input.

this

And also, if your gaming on the pc and the ps3/360 I think it would be better to invest in some speakers I have mine hooked up with surround sound.
