If you are trying to attach a link to a word or something..type in the world, highlight it and select the hyperlink button(next to the image one) which is in the little box right over the text you are typing.
Just so you don't get confused, HazBazz has got it slightly backwards - Most forums use BBCode, like you're trying to use, whereas Giant Bomb uses a WYSIWYG editor (What You See is What You Get), so you don't need to add any confusing markup to get anything to work. Like pryo says - simply type what you would like the link to be, highlight it, click the paperclip icon and add your Link URL or whatever.
