I agree with the above. Norton ain't worth it, more of an annoyance than protection. And half the time it doesn't even protect you against the real threats.

    Yup.

I recommend either AVG (free) or Nod32 / ESET Smart Security (not free)

@SwirlinDervish: There are a number of good choices. Honestly you can't go wrong with AVG. it's Free and extremely good.

If you want to support them theres also a paid version with more features. i've been using that for many years now and never had a single infection.

Been running without an antivirus for three years. Haven't had a problem.

Uninstall Norton! Having nothing is better than that.

You can go into the settings and schedule when norton scans.  Use it until your subscription runs out to get your moneys worth, and then switch to something free that does a lot less.

Ditto! 7 years myself. People will call us crazy, but honestly, Noscript, smart browsing habits, only downloading files from trustworthy sources, and you're fine. I have not had a virus since the Napster days. How do I know? I bring my drive to work once every 2 months and run a scan with NOD32.

Totally Agreed.  However, if you want to get some free un-intrusive antivirus software just to be safe, you can't go wrong with  Microsoft Security Essentials

Couldn't have said it better myself...the only time I recommend installing any kind of antivirus bloatware such as Norton is when kids who have no idea about security are using the machine.
