Pick the first class you will play in Diablo III.
Going with Witch Doctor because it looks like it plays kind of like the Necromancer from D2, and I loved playing a Necromancer.
I have no idea, but it won't be the "first class". I don't see any point to playing it repeatedly for little to no variation in the story/experiecne. I still don't understand people who say they played Diablo II for months and years. I played it, beat it, put it back on the shelf. Never touched it again (except for the later expansion). It's essentially a fairly linear single player game and nothing more. As much as I adore the sries, it's getting harder for me to get worked up about a game that I've waited 8-10 years for that I'll pay $65 for and that I'll finish in five or six hours.
I'm pretty sure it won't be the Barbarian, though.
@Branthog: Some people, myself included, find it fun. Why? I don't know. Maybe it's the character progression, maybe it's the social element. All I know is I made a bunch of characters in D2 and will probably play a bunch of D3.
As for my first class, Barbarian. It was always my favorite class in D2. Leap attacking across giant chasms never got old. Monk does seem really cool though.
Barbarian? I dunno, I'm really torn, they all seem really great this time around. Probably not the monk, just because I want to get a feel for the game before going into a class I probably won't be good with. But barbarian looks like a pretty beefy, enjoyable class. Also, I love leaping.

The game play differs wildly class to class, the world is different on subsequent playthroughs, loot is different, you can play it with others, and the story was never what you went to in that game(and was very easy to just ignore entirely), so hearing that the story is holding you back from playing a different class is a little saddening. Not saying you haven't got a good reason, just that I feel the same way about your opinion as you seem to feel about people like me who played the game through with every class.
Witch Doctor, Wizard, or Demon Hunter.
I like playing evil mages / archers, but get picky. I don't like shamanistic/witchy crap, and the witch doctor sounds naturally more like that than say a necromancer. And I can't stand guns in my fantasy games, so if the demon hunter uses those, and the witch doctor is too witch doctory for me, I will go with Wizard.

Well there's your problem. If you played Diablo II for the story, I am not surprised you thought this. I have made countless characters over and years and sunk god knows how many hours into the game. Diablo II is awesome because of its mechanics. The character customization, the skills that are fun to use, the endless grind for better gear (you can ALWAYS get better gear). Testing your character's build, constantly improving your gear, and playing online with others is what makes the game a lot of fun. I never gave two shits about the lore.
Probably the Demon Hunter. I'm always a fan of ranged classes, I loved the D2 Assassin and I like the whole Buffy thing they've got going on. Either that or the monk, which is just a very cool martial arts bases class.
Currently torn between Demon Hunter, Monk & Wizard. Normally I'd pick Monk without a second thought, but I've spent so much time playing Rogue in WoW that I'm looking to try something other than the glass cannon melee character & I've never tried a ranged class. Unfortunately the monk looks so awesome.
I was disappointed there was no Paladin or Druid this time, and I would assume that is because they want to do something different but they have Barbarian and Monk both of which were in the first 2 games.
Just disappointed. That being said I haven't really decided which class I want to play. It's a tough choice because they have 0 classes I normally played in Diablo (or Diablo 2) and I haven't gotten enough interest in the classes shown. Not that I don't like them, they're just not what I normally play. Maybe the demon hunter but I don't want to focus on ranged so I don't know. I'll figure it out when the game comes out haha
Either Wizard or Witch Doctor. Going to try all of them anyways, but those two will probably be my "mains"
Wizard looks like my favorite D2 class (Sorceress), and the Witch Doctor has the Wall of Zombies. If WoZ is still in, the Doctor is mighty interesting.
