For me I remember the magical day my dad brought home Duke Nukem 3D, I had hardly even played games up until that point. I just remember being so blown away by how awesome it was, for me the game was perfect. I think i was about 6 or 7 and I played through and beat that game like 15 times...ahhh the good ol' days.

So what about you guys, what game or maybe games really got you hooked on Pc gaming.

Hey Psynapse, thanks for saying COSMO I completely forgot about that game... other games that got me gaming on PC were Command & Conquer, Jazz Jackrabbit, and Duke Nukem

#11 Posted by Osmiles (189 posts) - 4 years, 10 months ago

Sim city was the first game I played on the PC.

#12 Posted by Luchadeer (105 posts) - 4 years, 10 months ago

It was either Prehistorik, Prince of persia or Jazz Jackrabbit. What really hooked me in was Doom though...

#13 Posted by Tetley (18 posts) - 4 years, 10 months ago

Wolfenstein 3D. I remember it being a pain in the ass getting it to run on the 286 or whatever we had back then.

Watching my friend play the first UT on his dad's alienware (back before alienware was crap) inspired me to play games but my first two that i bought were Roller Coaster Tycoon and Battlefield 1942.....Otherwise i was at my friends house every day watching him play UT....that was back when i was 7 i think....

First PC game I remember playing: One Must Fall 2097
First PC game that actually made me pay attention to PC gaming: Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II
The game that took me from console gamer to PC fanboy: Medal of Honor Allied Assault

#16 Posted by Evilmetal (467 posts) - 4 years, 10 months ago

Wolfenstein 3D.  I saw it at my friend's house,  back in the day when Wolf3d was fairly new, and right then and there I knew I needed a PC.

#17 Posted by License_To_Bill (789 posts) - 4 years, 10 months ago

I guess Jazz Jackrabbit, just because that was my first.

But the games that really got me playing PC games were Baldur's Gate one and two.

The game that converted me from consoles was Counter-Strike: Source. Loved playing that with friends.

Yeah, same here. It also got me out of computer games because I realized how pointless it was.

I think the first game I played was Age of Conquerors

#21 Posted by JoeyIA (653 posts) - 4 years, 10 months ago

My 1st 2 PC games were X-Wing Vs. Tie-Fighter and Total Annihilation... both for Windows 95.  Before that I'd only ever used a Mac, so they pretty much sold me on Windows as an OS too.

No problems mate, was one of the first games that got me into the scene...

Also Stunt Driver and Spy Hunter were other ones too.

I used to have a Commodore 64, games like Bruce Lee: Double Dragon and Frogger started me there.

NES had to have been Super Mario Brothers (i'm surprised that no-one has said that yet), Also Donkey Kong... games like that :)

Who can forget Rock and Roll Racing for SNES either!
#23 Posted by Cry0Tek (28 posts) - 4 years, 10 months ago

Commander Keen. You cant possibly say that I'm not hardcore on that one. :P

Doubt hardly anyone knows of that game either. XD

dead serious ... the first PC game i ever played was MATH BLASTER! in elementary school ... it was there in those short little mini games of addition and subtraction goodness that I found out how much I loved PC games and also how much I sucked at math.  I LOVED COMPUTER ROOM DAY but when it came time to print out the results on those old dot matrix printers ... eh ... not so much ... :p

but beyond that ... and into the actual games ... the first game I played that I really enjoyed was Doom.  It scared me shitless and I remember I used to have this older friend that lived down the street.  I would literally stalk him when he was home just so I could use his computer for an hour or two because my family was crap and didn't think we needed one.  It was good times ... come to think of it ... I was probably really annoying.  Sorry Eric ... where ever you are today!

ROFL ... I'm glad I wasn't the only one that did this to play games.  Think of it like this ... my room is in the attic ... my computer was in the basement ... I'd go MISSION IMPOSSIBLE style on that bitch all night just for a few hours of gaming.  Oh man ... I'm such a nerd ... lol

I played a lot of games before actually getting "into" it. As someone else mentioned, a lot of educational games, but also Doom, Kings Quest, etc. I actually enjoyed them, no doubt, but it didn't drive me to the point of saying I LOVE MY PC!!. I'd venture a guess that it was either C&C Tiberian Sun or Diablo. I blew a lot of time playing C&C over LAN with my three brothers but I spent every day after school on battle.net.

As a kid, I used to piss around on the PC a lot.  Jazz Jackrabbit, for sure.  The Muppets Treasure Island interactive computer game!  Then, there was Monkey Island, which set an abnormally high standard for adventure games.

And then when I was about eleven or twelve, I got introduced to Unreal Tournament.  And I have not stopped fragging since.
