Might as well dig up my Steam library...

Aquaria

Bastion

Binding of Isaac

Braid

Half Life 2

Limbo

Machinarium

Portal

Samorost 2

Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition

I'd put them in some type of order, but I'm stupidly lazy.

#4 Edited by dabe (299 posts) -

In no order;

Half Life, Half Life 2, Dwarf Fortress, Counter Strike, The Longest Journey, Shogun: Total War, Civilization II, Grim Fandango, Day of Defeat &

Jade Empire/KoTOR/KoTOR II/BIOWARE PRE-EA...lol...lol again...I'm not kidding...or laughing...

That about covers it, others include TF2, Oblivion, Morrowind, NN, Planescape, Fallout, Psychonauts, Mafia, Jedi Outcast, Dreamfall, Outcast, Baldur's Gate II, Portal, The Void, Beneath a Steel Sky, Jagged Alliance, Commandos, Pizza Connection 2, Gangsters, Football Manager (insert number), Championship Manager 3, Sensible World of Soccer, Grand Prix World, ICC 99 and so many more.

I have yet to play The Witcher or Stalker... :(

Edit -- Add in Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines...for forgetting that I should be remonstrated against.

Since when was alphabetical order not an official type of order?

That's like asking me to pick my 10 favorite children! Well, the first five are easy enough...

  • Civilization IV
  • Deus Ex
  • Rome: Total War
  • Baldur's Gate 2
  • Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines

After that is when it starts getting hazy. Let's just say some mixture of the Black Isle RPGs, the pre-DA2 BioWare games, Valve games, Troika games, Bethesda games, pre-2005 Lucas Arts, and many random indie developers.

#9 Posted by Video_Game_King (36272 posts) -

@Dalai:

There's an order to the alphabet? Oh......shit.....

#22 Posted by BeachThunder (11842 posts) -

@whyareyoucrouchingspock: Wait, you play games other than Total War? :P

10. Fallout

7. X-com: Terror From the Deep

6. Borderlands

5. Portal

4. Day of the Tentacle

3. System Shock 2

2. Bioshock

1. Braid

This was way too hard; I'm not even sure this list is 'correct', but I'd say it's representative enough of my top ten. Anyway, some seriously great lists in this thread :D

1. Half-Life 2 - Including all the episodes. I have never been so invested in a video game's story and characters. I just wish Valve would get the next installment out.

2. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic - Best plot twist ever? I think so.

3. Unreal Tournament 2004 - Even though I don't play it anymore, the online play for this literally consumed my entire life back in the day so it deserves my top three.

4. Portal 2 - Spaaaaaaaaace!! 'Nuff said.

5. Mass Effect: The Trilogy - Questionable ending aside, I absolutely fell in love with this series. The scifi setting was flawlessly thought out. I have never seen so much attention given to the minor details of a science fiction universe of a video game. It was simply brilliant.

6. Sins of a Solar Empire - There are simply not enough scifi real time strategy games on the market today. Even more rare are actual GOOD scifi real time strategy games. SoaSE is a GOOD scifi real time strategy game.

7. Unreal - One of the first shooters I ever played. I had a lot of fun exploring the alien world the game had thrown me into, and reading all of the logs and deciphering the writings in the ruins made it feel like I was in an actual place full of history

8. Freelancer - The game was my first exposure to the space trading sim and still captures my fondest memories of exploring space in a video game. It had a great story and some pretty sick battles. VIDEO GAME DEVELOPERS! MAKE MORE GAMES LIKE THIS PLEASE! . . . Ahem.

9. Civilization V - All of the Civ games have been good, but Five is the best. Nothing like a friendly game of world domination.

10. Age of Empires 2 - A classic that I feel needs to be on my list. I poured hours of my childhood playing this game with my dad and some of my friends.

Close picks

Bioshock

Supreme Commander

Rise of Nations

Empire Earth

Battlefield 3

DooM

Half-Life 1

The X series

Command and Conquer: Red Alert 2

Hmmm...

In no particular order:

- Medal of Honour: Allied Assault (My first online game, the community was so nice)
- Roller Coaster Tycoon
- Civ IV
- Sid Meier's SimGolf (See my totally middling but incredibly informative wiki page!)
-  Company of Heroes
- Starcraft II
- Age of Empires II and the Conquerors expansion (I'm getting back into playing this online. There is a community for this still)
- Mafia (PC version is better than the console version by miles, it feels like a different engine)
- Oblivion (I loved Skyrim, but I put 400 hours into Oblivion versus only 150 into Skyrim)
- Battlefield 2

If I had more space I would add way more stuff, like KOTOR, Neverwinter Nights, Diablo II, Zoo Tycoon, RCT2, Warcraft III, Vanilla TF2 (I dislike all the changes), Jedi Knight II, The Sims (original one, not the new stuff), STALKER series, etc.

I dont have a list of 10 games but Doom 1 and Doom 2. I have spent so much time playing those games that someone who is still raiding Everquest would look wierd at me.

EDIT: Oh and Freelancer, this game is amazing and I need a sequel or just a similar game + friends willing to play it.

#35 Edited by Korwin (2847 posts) -

In no particular order.

  • Total Annihilation
  • Warcraft 2
  • Diablo 2
  • Quake 3 Arena
  • Privateer
  • Commander Keen 4
  • The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind
  • Deus Ex
  • The Secret of Monkey Island
  • Battlefield 1942

There's probably a number of things I could change in and out of that list but they were the first that came to mind (Rome: Total War or Jedi Knight II for instance).
