DISCLAIMER: No MMO bashing please.

Simple question here: What MMO('s) have you played? Even if you haven't played any, just say so. I'm also speaking more in terms of pay-to-play MMO's, since if I listed every free MMO I've ever played I could write a book about it...

 - City of Heroes/Villains (1 1/2 years)
 - Final Fantasy 11 (6 months)
 - Auto Assault (6 months)
 - World of Warcraft (4 years)
 - EVE Online (3 years)
 - Everquest 2 (1 months)

Yeah, I think that's it.

Diablo 2, because it was free.

I'm not cheap.

Too many - I won't even mention the horrible Korean grindfest 'free2play' ones, but otherwise:

  • World of Warcraft - for way too long
  • EVE Online - still playing, for a few years, still playing
  • City of Heroes/City of Villains - for a few months
  • Guild Wars - the trial - I found it really boring after playing WoW so long
  • Vanguard - A desperate (and failed) attempt to cash in on the WoW market share.
  • Lord of the Rings Online - While I really enjoyed it, I didn't have enough friends playing to make it worthwile staying. They're doing a great job with it though.
  • Auto Assault - Great fun. For 30 minutes.
  • Anarchy Online - Purely because it was free, but could never get in to it.
  • Planet Side - I enjoyed the concept, but the community was a bit disappointing.
  • Lineage 2 - Lots of grinding, but it was relatively well polished and quite fun.
  • Dungeon Runners - I still have this game installed - there's something appealing about a game that's ripping off other games for the fun of it - and it's actually 'good' free, not awful free.
  • Pirates of the Burning Sea - The sea battles were fun, but the questing and land areas were dull and uninspiring, I guess I was comparing it too much to WoW.
  • Tabula Rasa - An interesting concept, and a nice world, but when I played it was buggy and well, boring.

I've never played a pay to play MMO, my family doesn't have the money to spare.

Only MMO I ever liked was a free 2 play MMO called Last Chaos

#11 Posted by crumble (4 posts) -

Final Fantasy XI (few days-bored the hell outta me)
Guild Wars (2ish years)
World of Warcraft (year or so)
Quit them all though.

#12 Posted by NeoTheta (225 posts) -

Guild Wars(1 1/2 years)
World of Warcraft (1 month)
Tabula Rasa beta
Aside from those, I've played a LOT of free MMOs. Some good, some absolutely awful.

I played World of Warcraft for about 3 years. I tried City of Heroes, Final Fantasy XI and Guild Wars (all briefly), but I currently am waiting to try Warhammer Online.

#15 Posted by TSchonbeck (127 posts) -

World of WarCraft Beta (1 month)
Anarchy Online (5 minutes)

That's about it.

#16 Posted by Jensonb (1769 posts) -

WoW, SWG, PSO. None for very long, though I really liked PSO. I wasn't willing to pay for it after the Beta ended though (This was Blue Burst, the PC version)

#17 Posted by Arsenal99 (29 posts) -

Wow and star wars galaxies (before the update)

#18 Posted by demonbear (1877 posts) -

Okay lemme think.

Wow - 3 years
Guild wars - couple of months
Age of conan - A month, will go back after 4,5 months when they'll fix most of their problems.
Eve Online - tried it 2 or 3 times, i WANT to love this game but i just can't, too passive, too steep learning curve.
LOTRO - a year. Its fun at first but killing realistic looking bears at lvl 50 isn't what i call fun.
Vanguard - a month. Tried it, its crap. Looks good though.

And many more but really, down the line. WoW is king.

  • Knights Online; 5 months
  • KAL Online; 1 month
  • World of Warcraft; 1 year
  • Eve Online; 6 months (recently stopped playing)

I'm currently playing World War II Online as a change of pace. The community is great, so I might stay for a while longer.

#20 Posted by GumbieuK (120 posts) -
  • Eve Online (about a week)
  • World Of Warcraft (2 Years)
  • Guild Wars (Few Months)
  • Lord Of The Rings Online (5 Months)
#21 Posted by EntwineX (74 posts) -

I've only briefly tried Silkroad and EVE, both bored me to tears. I just don't think MMOs are for me.

Tho there are few interesting ones on the way so I might give the Stargate, Kotor, Jumpgate Evo or Infinity a try ..if there are trials.

#22 Posted by Azteris (810 posts) -

I definitely can't wait to see the KOTOR MMO, but it seems far off unfortunately. In the mean time, might as well check out Warhammer.

#35 Posted by PapaLazarou (711 posts) -

I've played them all, been playign since meridian 59 then moved onto UO and EQ etc etc. Problem with the genre is it SUCKS just all clones of one another these days and soooo boring. 2003 was great though with EVE Online, SWG and PS which were all Unique and AMAZING but since then SWG and PS have been turned to shit and EVE Online I'm tired of it after playing for 5 years.

#36 Posted by thebrassthief (70 posts) -

Adding two to my own list...

Guild Wars (4 years, on and off)
Age of Conan (3 months)

#37 Edited by MagusMaleficus (1049 posts) -
  1. EverQuest
  2. Dark Age of Camelot
  3. Anarchy Online
  4. Star Wars Galaxies
  5. EverQuest 2
  6. World of Warcraft
I didn't play any of them but WoW for very long. I played WoW for roughly six months before it grew stale.
#38 Posted by Mavosa (34 posts) -

I've played over 50 in total, mostly free mmorpgs, but I'd have to say Final Fantasy XI, World of Warcraft and Ragnarok Online were my major ones.

#39 Posted by Blazer74 (186 posts) -

WoW
EverQuest 2
City of Heroes and Villians

Can't say I am all too interested in genre anymore though.

#40 Posted by Hamz (6846 posts) -

World of Warcraft

Tabula Rasa
Hellgate London
Anarchy Online

#41 Posted by emnii (198 posts) -

#42 Posted by gladestone (15 posts) -

#43 Posted by epic_pets (1339 posts) -

worldof warcraft only

#44 Posted by Bazz (17 posts) -

Have just started playing Age of Conan in the past month, after being an offline rpg man for many years. Im enjoying so far and levelling up in mmo's seems far more important that in offline rpgs.

#45 Posted by Ossi (1229 posts) -

Alright, here goes.

  • World of Warcraft
  • Age of Conan
  • Everquest 2
  • EVE Online
  • Lord of the Rings Online
  • Tabula Rasa
  • Guild Wars
  • Runescape
  • Lineage 2
  • Ragnarok Online
  • Silk Road
  • Maple Story
  • Pristontale
  • Prince of Quin ( can't believe I remember that one )
  • Space Cowboy
  • Risk Your Life
  • Risk Your Life 2
  • M.U.
  • Dark Age of Camelot

Pretty much the majority of those free or now pay to play Korean / Japanese MMO's. I can't even remember them all I'm pretty sure I missed another 10 at least.
#46 Posted by tec3297 (1170 posts) -
  • World of Warcraft
  • Maple Story
  • Mabinogi
#47 Edited by cgrady (99 posts) -

Ultima Online
Anarchy Online
Dark Age of Camelot
Guild Wars
World of Warcraft

Ultima Online (pre-renaissance at least) is still my favorite of all time. Had so much fun playing that game for way too many hours a day for a couple years. I miss it.

#48 Posted by tariqari (431 posts) -
  1. SWG - Retired
  2. Pirates of the Burning Sea - Retired ( I never played the released version, only beta.)
#49 Edited by Luke (1609 posts) -

Only the PvP orientated ones matter:

  1. Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning (currently playing)
  2. Shadowbane
  3. Ultima Online
  4. Lineage 2
  5. Dark Age of Camelot
... but Phantasy Star Online, World of Warcraft, Anarchy Online, and Final Fantasy XI were good too, I guess :)

Is Guild Wars considered an MMO?
#50 Posted by Zeppy (2 posts) -

I have played:

  1. World of Warcraft
  2. Shadowbane
  3. Helbreath
  4. Guild Wars
  5. Age of Conan
  6. MU Online

The first 3 games I have played for at least 2 years. Currently I'm not playing any MMOs but I'm thinking about trying out Shadowbane again since it's free.
