How many people have tried playing games with
the Xbox 360 controller on the PC & not finding
it working very well or not at all? I'm really surprised
the lack of support the controller has, even though
it seems pretty useful for PC games.
Here's a list of games I've tried the Controller on
for PC:
Star Trek Online
Champions Online
Killing Floor
WH40k: Dawn of War 2
Spore
The only game it worked smoothly with was Champions
Online. There was a time when CO was going to come to
the 360, so I suspect that is why the CO game has full on
support for the Xbox controller. STO has a hack for ship
combat but it's not that good. The others don't work at all.
Anyone have a list of games that work well with
an Xbox 360 controller on a PC? Just wondering.

Xbox 360 Controller for PC Games?
Try playing some driving games, or maybe an FPS with it. Star Trek Online with an xbox 360 controller, really?
Any Games for Windows Live games I believe are required to have 360 controller support, so there's that. I'm not sure if Dead Rising 2 is a part of that but I remember Brad saying on the bombcast that it had 360 controller support.
Edit: This page should help too.
just about all of the Valve games on the Source engine.
i actually prefer L4D 1 and 2 on a controller.
yeah, all of those games besides maybe killing floor would be terrible with a controller. I have found that pretty much every game that was released on the 360 or is a games for windows live title will have native 360 controller support. Please play RTS games like dawn of war with a mouse and keyboard!
I used my Horipad EX2 with the Champions Online demo. There's a "Controller Enabled" option in the advanced search on Steam.
I smell a troll. . . . .Here's a list of games I've tried the Controller on
for PC:
Star Trek Online
Champions Online
Killing Floor
WH40k: Dawn of War 2

that kind of game wouldn't work well with it, I just tried
it for the hell of it.
Maybe you should try the controller with games that are also available on consoles, are optimized to use it in the first place, or not designed around using a mouse and keyboard (An RTS)
Driving games and even action/adventure games like Batman AA and Red Faction work well with the controller, to the point the developers planned for people to use it and it works without issue, RTS games like Starcraft 2, Dawn of War 2 and Company of Heros I wouldn't want play with any controller. Support wise i've never had any issue getting the xbox controller to work, granted its mostly with steam games where a controller is a viable option.
Why on earth would you try to play Dawn of War 2 on a game pad? That's sheer lunacy.
Game pad usage is best employed with 3rd person action titles, platformers and racing titles. You will find that Ubisoft suck at wireless 360 controller support however. They have been using the same busted Xinput configuration on every single PC port they've done since AC1.
Dude, what. That is fucking... LOOK AT THE GAMES. EVEN IF THEY HAD PERFECT SUPPORT THEY ARE BUILT IN SUCH A WAY THAT USING A GAMEPAD IS HERECY. Maybe Spore would work, and Killing Floor is acceptable, but what the hell. No shit it isn't working. I am sorry, but thsoe games wouldn't work no matter what. Only console ports work better, and that is only sometimes. Games like Just Cause 2, Assassin's creed, any God of War-esque game, will work better with a gamepad. But it needs to be an action game, usually shooters or simpler games to really work on a controller, and then the only reason to use it is for things like relaxing on the couch.
I don't know if anyone read it, but KILLING FLOOR doesn't work with
the controller! Seems everyone was in shock about me trying it with
DoW 2. I was just testing it, wasn't going to actually use it.
Actually it works great with Champions...I only wish it worked as well
with Star Trek.
I forgot to mention I also tried it with EVE Online. It doesn't work for
it either. :-(
" @Lind_L_Taylor: Lol I doubt it not working with EVE is much of an issue, that game is about as un-friendly to controller as you can possibly get. "Yeah. Flying & firing the weapons would be a
lot of fun though. I'll proly go nag them on their
forums about it.

It's kinda neat that the 360 controller works just as well as a general gaming pad for the pc as well as for the xinput (most 360 ports) enabled games. Got my wireless adapter and have never looked for another controller since.
So was it even comfortable playing those games with a gamepad? I imagine it wasn't all too easy trying to fit every useful function of those generally complex games onto a controller. It's still worth a shot though.
Some more goods news. I verified today (thru Steam Forum)" @Lind_L_Taylor: None of those seem like games that should use a controller. I play all my console ports with a 360 controller. Beat Dead Rising 2 a couple of days ago. "
that Blade Kitten (new 2D scroller) on the PC works with an Xbox
Controller. Blade Kitten is only $10 on Steam as opposed to
the ~$15 on the Xbox. Like having my cake & eating it too.

Yeah it was a test. I was just curious if gawful-supported" @Lind_L_Taylor: why an rts and a shooter? worst ideas, only good for sports games and racing games. "
games were required to work with Xbox 360 controllers.
It's funny, I think I'd rather use a mouse/keyboard for racing
games. In GTA, I found it a lot easier to race by mouse/keyboard
when played on the PC than when using a controller for the
Xbox.

Yep. That's Lind's Sonnet Writing Style ™(c)
Why are
you typing

BTW, Killing Floor was developed by a tiny company for PC only, so it's no surprise it has no native controller support. If you really want to do it, try Xpadder.
For most games I just stick with my mouse and keyboard, but my xbox controller works great with Dead Space, RE5, Saint's Row 2 and Red Faction: Guerrilla.
any games for windows live game that supports a controller has to support the 360 controller. There are many gfwl games that don't support any controllers.
I hunt down games i can play with my controller. ie, HTPC time.. 63" TV and kicking it on the sofa :)
recently i played dead rising 2, overload, singularity, fallout 3 (suck it.. i like it better with the controller cause the menus sucked with the keyboard. :) ),
dead space, spinter cell: conviction, protype, red faction, just cause 2, metro 2033, alpha protocal (which i enjoyed after i got over the shitty hacking games), any source game supports 360 contorller... hrmmm... borderlands..
sucks that bioshock 2 didn't work with it ... i don't really enjoy it as much as i did the first one.. but doing it sofa sytle would have me come back to it :)
