buy a new macbook pro, and install windows xp with bootcamp (a new application on all macs). i do it, i play crysis on my macbook pro. not the highest settings but its works!

Build you own computer for gaming and get a cheap laptop for basic stuff. This is your best cost effective solution. However if you have a lot of extra cash then go ahead and buy a Macbook and an alienware. Vista isn't that bad anymore now that the service pack is out and most of the bugs have been delt with.

Alienware is trash. Just a bunch of ripoff garbage that you cant upgrade or wont have the knowledge to upgrade when you want to.
Just watch a few videos and browse some PC hardware forums, building a PC is easy as hell, and MUCH cheaper than buying from the assholes at Alienware. If you dont want to build your own, then I strongly suggest www.avadirect.com - they do fantastic builds for much cheaper than other sites like Alienware, and IBuyPower (who are also trash)

no, more like just go to newegg and search for a cheap pc. Building a pc is NOT easy. Lots of pc gamers try to pass it off as easy, but it really isn't.
most of these pcs are actually cheaper
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2032280010%204021%201141828689&name=Core%202%20Quad
When they make that $500 pc (not prebuilt) they're missing so many components that it's not even funny... not to count a moniter which can cost $300"

You (generally) don't get the quality and service you receive when buying and assembling the parts yourself, rather than purchasing from a company, eg. Dell or its subsidiary Alienware.

btw, i don't know if this is true or not, but this site runs extremely well on my mac and i felt like it may have something to do with it being created using macs. probably just a smooth running site regardless though

Personally I suggest shelling out a few extra dollars for a PC Desktop from Dell / Alienware with a warranty, trust me you'll feel a lot better later on. Vista works great, there is just a lot of negative media on it because everyone... well hates Microsoft.
Anyway, hope that helped."

The main thing I would say though is that home-built desktops are far more prone to hardware issues, some of which can be resolved easily and some... like say, your motherboard short-circuiting, are a massive pain to resolve. Building my own when I was in high school was a great experience (as well as all the mistakes I made haha) but I don't see myself ever doing that again simply for the hassles in entails if you're unlucky.

just built a pc. cost £900 and was super easy to put together. you just have to make sure you connect all the correct cables into their correct places. Spec: oc'd to 3.6ghz dual core, 4gb ram, 1TB Sata II HDD, BFG nvidia 260GT OC (and then oc'd again :) ) o, and its running on xp. not bothering with vista.
as TheGTAvaccine said....alot like lego. Sorting out the bios is the only thing i got a friend to help me with. Once youve finished you can also be proud of your creation! you dont get that satisfaction by just buying a prebuilt desktop.

Only retards build there own computers... Do you honestly think your paying the same price for a video card that alienware pays? If you add up the cost of everything in a new alienware and then go to newegg it would cost more to build it yourself.

But then they tack a ridiculous price on to that for labor and just pure profit. And making money off of ignoramuses like you. I could do a piece-by-piece comparison if you really need convincing.

Any pre-built is a rip-off man, especially Macs and there overrated OS.

You know, you could always get a mac and then get a 360. That way you'll be able to play the Blizzard must haves (wow, starcraft, diablo) and then you can get pretty much everything on the 360 (the 360 pretty much gets all the pc games). That is unless you're into RTSs and more niche pc titles.
All of Valve's stuff comes to the 360. And despite what people say, well going by the OB and L4D, it's exactly the same crap
Then again, I'm not familiar with pricing on Macs, so I'm not sure how it works out (but either way you want a mac and the 360 is a just as good alternative in getting pc games and then it has its own set)
