Since I could save some money buying the Steam version of Street Fighter 4 instead of the disc, how does the whole games for Windows Live thing work out on the Steam versions? I'm also wondering for Bioshock's sake, too.

Can you still get XBL achievements?
Can you get Steam achievements instead?
Would you be playing only against people with Windows/Xbox Live accounts, you know, on Microsoft servers, or only able to play against people with the same version you have?

Games that are on Steam are the same as if bought outside Steam. You can play with the same ppl and have the same features, plus Steam.

You could never play with people playing the Xbox 360 version. You can talk to them, but you can't play the same game they're playing if they are playing the 360 version and you're playing the PC version.

GFWL runs on steam versions of these games just as it would do on the retail versions.

Thats good news then. I just wonder why the copy of Bioshock I got when it was $5 on Steam a while ago never gave me GFW achievements, or had an option to log into my gamertag.

Because Bioshock is not a GFWLive game. Read my first comment in this thread.

Thats lame. So there is zero difference between any PC game, like the Orange Box, and a plain "Games For Windows" box-art title.

On the Xbox console, for those not familiar, "Live" indicates the ability to play against others online, but all single player offline games still get achievement scores tied to your screenname.

Does what it says on the tin, on PC.

The "Games For Windows" brand is just that, a brand. It means very little. There are a few requirements for games released on the GFW label need to meet. They need to be compatible with 64 bit versions of windows, and support widescreen resolutions (there are a few other requirements too). "Games For Windows Live" is the online service that runs achievements & stuff.
