Overview

Perfect Dark Zero is a launch title for the xbox 360 platform. It was number one to be on everyone's "to get with the xbox" list that was made by former Gamespot employee Greg Kassavin. Perfect Dark Zero was developed by Rare, it was often praised for its 32 player multiplayer compacity, which also allowed bots. The game is also considered to be the first to fully utilize the Xbox 360's new technology at the time.

Story

Perfect Dark's main mode is driven by its storyline, set 3 years before the original Perfect Dark game (making it a prequel) in 2020, the original game evidently being set in 2023. The game main protagonist is named Joanna Dark and is a bounty hunter, Joanna works with her father and friend named Jack and Chandra. The game has many different missions within it, the first mission revolves around Joanna rescuing a scientist with her Father and Friend from a Triad drug lord. During the mission Joanna’s father gets kidnapped by a megacorperation which goes by the name of ‘dataDyne, after this Joanna try’s to rescues her father but in the process Jack, Joanna’s father gets murdered at the hands of the son of the megacorperations founder.

Within the first mission you also find out that Jack had a chip implanted in his head tracking every memory etc which ever passed threw his memory, the second mission is based around Joanna finding a Dr which also uses the same technology named the “neurodrive technology” to try and capture any memory of the last words her father said regarding the scientist which was saved in the first mission (Named, Ziegler). Joanna is now on a mission to try and find out this secret as it could tell her a lot about Data Dyne, of course then friend Chandra turns her back on Joanna and kills her last hope of knowing the information, she does this by killing the Dr which uses the technology which Joanna needed, Chandra was secretly working for Data Dyne.

Joanna now wants to again find this technology to see what her dad said regarding Ziegler’s secret, the only way to do this is by joining the Carrington Institute which is about to infiltrate a mining operation in a massive Peruvian Temple, After visiting this temple, Joanna discovers the conspiracy.

The founder and his son which own Data Dyne are now looking for an rare artefact which is a huge power source for the Graal, the Graal is a device which has superhuman powers, the device is rumoured to be made by the Majians which you come in contact with in the original Perfect Dark game. Joanna again goes after this artifice knowing if Data Dyne gets there hands on it a lot of bad things could occur. Joanna travels to trying to find this artefact while running into Data Dynes founders son which Joanna ends up killing. The Carrington institute which Joanna is working for is planning an attack on Data Dyne, the battle then commences on a very large bridge, Joanna sneaks her way across the bridge and battles against the founder of Data Dyne named Zhand Li, and she fights with him on the Graal. Joanna finally beats Zhand Li even after using the Graal causing him to have superhuman powers. Joanna them meets with the leader of the Carrington institute named Daniel Carrington, the final line in the game is where Joanna asks how she did on her mission and Daniel Responds “Perfect” making a reference to the games title.

Multiplayer

It had co-op and online multiplayer with up to 32 players of various Deathmatch and DarkOps modes. The DarkOps modes are a more strategic and tactical multi-player mode, with many similarities to the popular online PC game Half Life: CounterStrike.

Deathmatch modes
    - Killcount: Free-for-all mode where the winner is the player that achieves the most kills.
    - Team Killcount: A team based version of Killcount where the team with the most kills wins.
    - Capture the Flag: A team-only match. Each team tries to grab the enemy’s flag and return it to their base. The winning team is the one with the most flags captured.
    - Territorial Gains: A team-only match. The goal is to capture and hold several neutral hills until they generate points. The team with the most territories held is the winner.

DarkOps modes
    - Eradication: A team-only game. Teams take turns trying to eliminate each other. The team that stays alive the longest, or that kills the other team while still living wins.
    - Onslaught: A team-only game. Teams take turns defending and attacking a base. The defenders get one life (but can be revived), and can purchase weapons. The attackers have unlimited lives, but have basic weapons (choice of a Falcon, CMP 150 and a DEF-12 Shotgun). The team that holds the base the longest wins.
    - Infection: A free-for-all game. Players start as either infected or uninfected. When a player dies, they become infected. If the uninfected stay alive for the duration of the round, only they get points. If the infected eliminate them, then only they get points. The player with the most points overall is the winner. (This can seem like a team game as uninfected huddle in a room to survive, or as infected team up to eliminate them).
    - Sabotage: A team-only game. Teams take turns attacking and defending certain pieces of property on the map. The team that destroys the most property or eliminates the other team wins.
