Other Side
The Other Side is the alternate reality crated at the end of Persona 2: Innocent Sin, it's also the main setting of Persona 2: Eternal Punishment. At the end of the game, Maya Amano was killed with the Spear of Longinus. In order to resurrect Maya, Philemon created an alternate past where none of Maya's friends ever met, creating an altered timeline in Eternal Punishment.
Combat
Persona 2: Innocent Sin's combat consists of random encounters which play out in a Battle Screen. The grid-based system from Revelations: Persona is gone, replaced by a more free-form system allowing the party and enemies to attack in the same turn. At the end of each battle, the player earns experience points and Yen which is use to purchase different things around the city.
Demon Contract Gameplay System
What made Persona 2 unlike any other JRPG at the time was the Contract system, in which players can negotiate with demons rather then fighting them. Each party member has four unique dialog options in which to interact with demons. Each demon reacts differently to the dialog choices. Demons have four different reactions, indicated by a colored spotlight illuminating the ground below them.
If a demon is made happy, he will give the player the option of drawing up a contact between himself and the player. If a contract exists with a demon, the demon will give you either Yen, an Item, or information if it is made happy again. If the demon is made interested, he will give you some tarot cards, which is used to summon more Personae at the Velvet Room. If the demon is made angry, it will fight you or break any contract the player had with it. If a demon is made scared, it will flee battle.
Hunger Gameplay System
Sumaru City is full of different districts with each having at least one restaurant. The player can go to these restaurants and grab a bite to eat which in turn grants the player stat increases or decreases.
Innocent Sin never made it out of Japan. Atlus has never officially stated the reason for this decision. Many believe the reason Persona 2: IS never left Japan to be the politically charged nature of parts of its storyline. Examples include the resurrection of Adolf Hitler and the option to have a homosexual relationship between the protagonist and another male character.
On Oct. 15, 2008, a patch was released which translated Persona 2: Innocent Sin into English. The patch was released by the translation team known as Devil Hackers. It provides a full translation of the text in the game, adds English subtitles to the opening movie but the Japanese voice acting remains untouched. When asked about the translation project at the 2008 Anime Expo, Atlus acknowledged that they were aware of the project, but chose to let the team continue its work.
The translation is good but has some problems, like in one of the scenes Eikichi says "What Whould We Do?" instead of "What Should We Do?" or how it says Jio instead of Zio.
Persona 3 and Persona 3 FES
Philemon may have appeared in Persona 3 in his butterfly guise. Only the playable characters who met Philemon could summon multiple Personae, but others, who had not encountered him, could only summon a single Persona. In Persona 3, this is explained to be due to one possessing the Wild Card. The only two characters to possess this ability in Persona 3 and it's epilogue, both had an encounter with a glowing blue butterfly, which may be Philemon. The name "PHIL" which welcomes to main character in the online game "Innocent Sin", may also be a reference to Philemon.
Persona 4
The save points throughout the game are blue butterflies flying in small circles. This is a sign that Philemon is still watching over the player.

Persona 2: Innocent Sin (ペルソナ2: 罪, Tsumi) is the first in the two-part Persona 2 story, followed by Persona 2: Eternal Punishment (ペルソナ2: 罰, Batsu). Persona 2: Innocent Sin was released in Japan on June 24, 1999. Unlike Eternal Punishment, Innocent Sin was never translated out of Japanese.

In order to resurrect Maya, Philemon created an alternate past where none of Maya's friends ever met, creating an altered timeline in Eternal Punishment.Gameplay
Combat
Persona 2: Innocent Sin's combat consists of random encounters which play out in a Battle Screen. The grid-based system from Revelations: Persona is gone, replaced by a more free-form system allowing the party and enemies to attack in the same turn. At the end of each battle, the player earns experience points and Yen which is use to purchase different things around the city.Demon Contract Gameplay System
What made Persona 2 unlike any other JRPG at the time was the Contract system, in which players can negotiate with demons rather then fighting them. Each party member has four unique dialog options in which to interact with demons. Each demon reacts differently to the dialog choices. Demons have four different reactions, indicated by a colored spotlight illuminating the ground below them.- Green - Happy
- Yellow - Interested
- Red - Angry
- Blue - Scared
If a demon is made happy, he will give the player the option of drawing up a contact between himself and the player. If a contract exists with a demon, the demon will give you either Yen, an Item, or information if it is made happy again. If the demon is made interested, he will give you some tarot cards, which is used to summon more Personae at the Velvet Room. If the demon is made angry, it will fight you or break any contract the player had with it. If a demon is made scared, it will flee battle.
Rumors Gameplay System
As for mentioned if a rumor becomes wide-spread it becomes reality, the developers decided to play around with this and what you get is the rumors system. The rumors gameplay system is a system were the player can go around town and hear rumors from random citizens or one of the many Rumormongers in the game and then go and spread the rumor at Kuzunoha Detective Agency, which makes it become true. The rumors can range from a store selling weapons to a ghost in an abandoned factory to even transforming a persona.Hunger Gameplay System
Sumaru City is full of different districts with each having at least one restaurant. The player can go to these restaurants and grab a bite to eat which in turn grants the player stat increases or decreases.Environments
Persona 2: Innocent Sin environments are composed of 3-dimensional maps with the characters represented as bitmap sprites. The camera follows the party in an overhead view, with 8 cardinal directions. Sumaru City is navigated via an aerial view map. The party uses the map to visit each district as they become available. Each district has key locations to visit, as well as a shopping mall where the party can converse with locals and visit restaurants or shops. There is always at least one Rumormonger stationed in each mall.Reception
English Translation Patch
Interesting Facts
Philemon
Although Philemon doesn't appear in Persona 3 or 4, he is mentioned.Persona 3 and Persona 3 FES
Ginko
In Devil Summoner (Another game in the SMT Series) you meet a character named Ginko who has long blond hair and blue eyes. this may be a reference to Lisa.| Game Name | Persona 2: Innocent Sin |
