@Lythium: Yeah, Foonzo's the place I've heard people will be going to for some P4A stuffs and I intend to go there often as well after the game launches. Guess the community here isn't all that bad and even though we don't have as many events as some places celebrating the NA launch (like that 24 hour Charity Tournament in California), we at least have some stuff.

Giant Bomb Persona 4 Arena Tournament (PS3)
I would love to see if we could get the old crew back for some other game, like this one.I used to love the old GB SF4 tournaments. Good times. If I end up getting a new PS3 by then I'd definitely be down. The game looks cool.
Of course a lot of people say 'yeah sign me up!' and then you never hear from them again.
I'll probably be getting this sometime (when it does come out in the UK) and I might try to sort out some kind of GB tournament, though I doubt it'll have the professionalism that either this one or Pessh's tournaments of yore had.
Just pre-ordered it not long ago, and as someone whose skill in Guilty Gear always amounted to "Do crazy shit as Ky and try to land instant kills because they're cool looking", I look forward to being a free victory for whoever I go up against. That said, I also don't play games online all that often, so after I try it out a few times I might come to the conclusion that my connection isn't up to snuff to bother competing. For the time being, though, I am dead set on entering, so...

Yeah well I haven't seen so much buzz around a fighting game since SF4. When you think back it was pretty crazy how popular those lobbies were. I don't actually have broadband or a PS3 at the moment but we'll see what happens.
I would like to throw as a prize for 1st, 2nd and 3rd a print of my own artwork. http://www.giantbomb.com/2012_07_31_15/51-2282044/

Nice work man!
Holy balls that's a lot of participants now. Unfortunately just as I fixed a broken PS3 a friend of my wasn't using, the hard drive on it died, and I don't know that I can afford a new hard drive, or will have one, before P4A comes out. Oh well. Good luck to everyone participating though.

Dude, would you maybe be interested in putting those towards the Xbox 360 tournament? We poor 360 players don't have any prizes. Its totally fine if you don't want too, just figured I'd suggest it.
By the way those are sick.
I hope it isn't too late to sign up. I wasn't sure if I would be able to get this due to funds but that worked itself out.
In case it isn't too late:

Hey Flux,
Anything concrete on the exact start time and round/block durations yet? Curious since I'm on PST and may want to leave work early on (next) Friday if required to meet the first round.
Still totally hyped for this :)

Nope! I wanted to wait for the moment that the entrants list was pretty much complete, so I guess now would be the time for me to determine those. Since Challonge sign-ups end at 2:00 PM PDT, that would be the official start of the tournament, but that may change as well depending on how I work this thing out.
I'll figure it out and post the info in the OP today.
68 dudes!
I'm going to go home in a few hours and see what I have for unused codes for games, maybe I can get some kind of offer for dudes who finished 4-8th or lose in the semis. I think I have some unused codes for Bulletstorm and Burnout Paradise, some other stuff.
Hopefully I can still be a part of this, it will give me a reason to play P4A instead of worry about Summer Session

I won't be able to participate but if anyone here would like a sparring partner, I'll be around during the week.
Sorry if this stuff was asked earlier in the thread, I didn't read through it.
Does this game have a spectator mode? if so, is there gonna be any streaming going on?(I don't know the logistics behind this, but I assume it needs some pricey equipment, just figured I'd ask).
Has anyone asked about getting the Giant Bomb chat put up during the tournament to make things a little easier and give people a place to congregate? Or is there something else worked out?
I'm wondering about some other logistical stuff too, but I don't wanna be that guy. I'll just assume everything is worked out.
I'll also likely be putting as much time as I can manage into this game until the tournament. I don't expect to win even if I put literally every second of time into it, but my competitiveness means I have to try. So if anyone is looking to spar feel free to contact me on the forums or on PSN or whatever.

Yes, the game does have a spectator mode. Not all matches will be streamed, but I do believe @MikeFightNight: has plans for streaming parts of the tournament.

No. I'm thinking that I'm going to ask entrants to enter GB's IRC channel to facilitate communication. The GB chat would probably be pretty awesome instead, but I doubt that's an option.

We should really make some noise and get some staff attention for our tournament, maybe at TNT or earlier. Brad promoted the Starcraft tournament, hopefully we can get some support.

That sounds cool, but I'm not too good at the whole self-promoting thing... I know it'd probably help a lot for communication purposes, though.

Here are notes I've made concerning scheduling:
Day 1 = Round 1, Round 2 = 60 matches
Day 2 = Round 3, Round 4 = 60 matches
Day 3 = Round 5, Round 6, S-F, Finals = 18-19 matches
------------------------------------------------------
[All times in EDT]
Day 1: 12:00 PM (August 10) - 8:00 AM (August 11)
Round 1: .....................W: 12:00 PM - 9:00 PM
...................................L: 12:00 PM - 11:00 PM (August 10)
Round 2: .....................W: 12:00 PM - 10:00 PM
...................................L: 12:00 PM - 8:00 AM (August 11)
Day 2: 8:00 AM (August 11) - 4:00 AM (August 12)
Round 3: .....................W: 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM
...................................L: 8:00 AM - 10:00 PM
Round 4: .....................W: 8:00 AM - 10:00 PM
....................................L: 8:00 AM - 4:00 AM (August 13)
Day 3: 4:00 AM (August 12) - 11:00 PM (August 12)
Round 5: ......................W: 4:00 AM - 6:00 PM
....................................L: 4:00 AM - 7:00 PM
Round 6: ......................W: 4:00 AM - 7:00 PM
.....................................L: 4:00 AM - 8:00 PM
S-F: .............................W: 4:00 AM - 8:00 PM
.....................................L: 4:00 AM - 9:00 PM
Finals: ..............................4:00 AM - 11:00 PM

I consider it final if no one has any suggestions or shows any desire to have it changed. Are the durations too long? Too short? Let me know. It might not be too clear right now, but it'll probably be all neat and tidy once this schedule is, uh, approved.
Of course, participants can play their unscheduled matches whenever they want to outside of the limits if their opponents are available. However, these are hard limits and players not available when they are surpassed will be disqualified. Seriously, no exceptions.
Would it be possible to have Round 1 Winners last to later on Friday? I assume I'm not the only person with work and that's also going to be the round with the most people so I think some flexibility would be nice. I'll try to leave early if I have to though.
Also just to check it looks like you're budgeting for 7 rounds right now which would support a max bracket size of 64. We do have more sign-ups than that so are we potentially in a first come first serve situation?
That's all I can think of to add. Cheers :)

I could maybe increase the Round 1 W to 10:00 PM, but I think that should be the max. Losers for round 1 count on the round 1 winners to have completed their matches and I don't want the losers to be playing too late on Friday. They technically have a lot of time, but most of it is pretty late at night/early in the morning.

No, I've made these durations according to 70 people signing up for the tournament and noted the number of matches accordingly in the notes. It's not a first-come, first-served scenario at all and any number of people will be able to join provided they sign up on the Challonge page when it's up.
We should just extend a friendly invite to Jeff, possibly Vinny. Provided he doesn't totally hate it. It's an outside shot but it would be cool.
Does anyone know how to play on TNT? Do you just send a friend request to the GBTNT account and hope? Also, I hope they play some PS3.

Sometimes they don't do online multiplayer with the community for TNTs nowadays. When they do, though, you need to send a friend request to GBTNT, yeah. And, if they're going to do Persona 4 Arena for TNT, I think they're pretty much forced to play the PS3 unless they want to suffer through some 360 netcode problems (assuming they don't get fixed this week).
Oh yeah, that is true. Still, as much as fighting a staff member would be cool, a scrub league might be almost more enjoyable to watch. Especially with Vinny and Drew running the transitions. TOUCHDOWN!@Brodehouse said:

I did not forget at all, I was assuming if we got any play at all on the PS3 it would be the last 30 minutes at best. But Flux brings up a good point, they might not play with us at all.You guys are forgetting that TNT's are mostly on the 360. Jeff also has a copy of Persona 4 Arena on the 360 first so it's safe to assume that TNT will only be on there.
